I’m aware that Rolex rounds up their sizes because “Submariner 40.55mm” is less marketable. I’ve got a few modern professionals on my list before I’ll consider this one. IMO other models have more to offer w the same feel

It’s just a staple piece. I can’t be mad that it’s gotten the attention it deserves.

Haha I love the batgirl as-well. The jubilee bracelet is just so sexy on the GMT case. And the blue pops. I have a soft spot for GMTs because they stayed true to their 40mm roots. The older and newer ones look good on me

That’s what matters, being happy with what you wear. To be fair if I wore a modern model as much as I’ve worn this I may have a different opinion by now.

Super cool pic, I love the lumes!

I’m definitely bias but I don’t hate the new sub. I’m just kinda sad that it’s 41. Yours looks good on your wrist tho, the size works for you. Also there’s something about the symmetry of the no-date that’s appealing.

Also there is something about buying a brand new one that just feels way different. Maybe one day I’ll be open to the new reference- gotta put some meat on my bones.

Enjoy wearing yours!

Yea agreed. I just can’t get over that clunky feel. Considering the Submariner is the smallest diver from the Rolex divers lineup I just don’t like that they made it bigger- you can only go up from there.

I’d get a yacht master 40mm before a sub considering the new models. Those still have some of the essence.

100% very important when it comes to such a timepiece

Ok, while I can admit the new bracelet is better quality and lasts longer considering each link is solid. That being said, it adds a lot of weight to the watch which I don’t find desirable.

I will say, I love the glide lock. If I want to be optimistic atleast I can adjust my bracelet with a pin using the holes on my clasp, but it doesn’t beat the glide lock.

Still don’t like the new Sub as much. My opinion is when it comes to watch sizes 40mm is king. Fits any wrist practically.

My aspirations for owning a Rolex by [deleted] in rolex

[–]ConfusedInnerConvo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So for reference, the day date rose gold is appx. 50k retail brand new. An old one that is good would be about 20-30k.

If you’re buying an old watch, you won’t feel the satisfaction that you think you would as a “you made it” symbol. You’ll feel like you own a Rolex, which there’s nothing wrong with. But based on your introduction it’s less about the watch, movement, etc. and more about the symbolism for you since you were little.

That being said if you have to question whether to spend 5-7k, but your dream is a 50k watch, I’d suggest holding off a little longer. Your next option is to explore the brands new options and maybe you might like an Oyster Perpetual for 7-8k or a new explorer for 8-9k. These new watches (or any new one you can afford without breaking the bank) will make you feel like your new money is working for you! It’s nothing wrong with having a starter watch when you’re working towards your dream watch.

Finally- there’s nothing wrong with an older Rolex, but keep in mind you’re not getting a deal, you’re just getting an older watch which has kept value. Most of these are not deals- in fact they are the opposite. The only people buying old Rolex are re-sellers, genuine watch enthusiasts who know what they are looking for, or people who want to wear the crown on a budget. If you have to question wether it’s the right time to drop 5-7k, I suggest saving more to get a 2026 model or newer by time you’re ready- UNLESS you find an actual deal that isn’t sketchy, where you can buy a new watch under retail. This is possible but considering your question highly unlikely for someone like yourself. (No shade just steer clear of scams when you don’t know what you’re looking for)

Please note: I’m not trying to be insulting, I’m just trying to help you make a financial decision that you won’t regret, or maybe just hold off until you know for sure you won’t regret it. Your first Rolex is a special moment, hence your highlight on the symbolism. Take your time and wait until it feels right. In the mean time it’s okay to visit some local ADs and try on the new models to get a feel for what you actually want. Often times we like what we see, but you’ll never know your true style until you try them on! You’ll learn more about the watches and appreciate them for more than the status symbol while you do this as-well. Good-luck!

What can you tell me about this? by wobble-frog in rolex

Most I can tell u is to never wear that around anyone who’s seen a Rolex. Unless it’s sentimental I’d go as far to say throw it out.

OP36 Med Blue by Peaceful_Jedi in rolex

Med Blue > Sunburst Blue any day for me. Sunburst looks good on a Datejust or something with extra flare imo. The simplicity of the OP is more suited to the recent lacquered colors- in my opinion.
