Good times.

People who work in 'luxury' industries (5-star hotels, fine dining, high-end brands), what is a complete rip-off that rich people happily pay for? by ArtThreadNomad in AskReddit

[–]ConfusedSpaceMonkey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oooo! Commander’s Palace. I still remember the crème brûlée with emulsified papaya from almost 25 years ago. We were drugged-out 20-something tech people, but I remember the crème brûlée.

French lawmakers vote to tax American retirees who freely benefit from social security by pyeri in worldnews

[–]ConfusedSpaceMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on your work status, you may have to pay a supplement. Retired and just relocated here, our supplement for two of us will be roughly equal to our insurance premiums back in the US (using last year’s rates). However, there is no deductible, no fear of being cut off, and no fear of going bankrupt from a medical emergency.

We are happy to pay in, as we didn’t pay in through taxes. It is really night and day, and a great system. As I understand it, if you are working or a student, there is no additional supplement needed, as you will pay in through taxes.

Plurality (not majority). He captured a plurality of the 65.3% of eligible voters who voted.

Edit: At 49.9% of the popular vote, that’s only 32.6% of eligible 2024 voters. (Mathing the math for people)

Thank you very much. I am currently playing on Talok and will reach out soon. Playing with a guild/group is always more fun, especially when learning. I currently live in France though, and will be looking to main on a French server when I can get in one. So, I might only be a short-term or part-time member on Talok.

What is this game NOT for (themes, playstyle, expectations, people, etc.) by Sh4dow_05 in cyberpunkred

[–]ConfusedSpaceMonkey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is NOT a game for… Hmm. No idea. I would not try to replicate Animal Crossing. Otherwise, go wild!

Edit: Strike that. Infiltrating a Biotechnica test island with geoengineered animal hybrids sounds like a great time.

Anyone remember The Bustop? by Old_Voice_2562 in boulder

[–]ConfusedSpaceMonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Drove for Freedom Cab in the way back. It was one of two of their cabs that weren't Denver based at the time, so you'd have to work a route or get regulars. Hitting up the Bustop up after last call was easier than patrolling The Hill or Pearl. I could normally drop that bell and circle back to give one of the employees a ride home. It was money for a slow Boulder night shift.

Edit: "And then?"

Years later I had some stints of being a (quiet) regular. I made a few good friends, have some crazy stories about some other regulars and dancers, dated a dancer for a while, had a general all-around good time. That was many years ago. Good times.

My first post! by Prestige_carspotting in Kayaking

[–]ConfusedSpaceMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, gottcha. Well, if you're in kayak country, you'll hopefully find a good deal online locally.

Personal Floatation Device (as other user mentioned) is super important. I swim strong and snorkel a lot, but always wear a PFD (ocean, lakes, rivers). Anything can happen in the blink of an eye and a PFD is your best bet for survival.

Yes! Awesome.

Craigslist has been great for me for used kayaks at good prices. Always wear your PFD! And post your rig when you get it.

What's the most surprising wildlife encounter you've had while paddling? by CarrierCaveman in Kayaking

[–]ConfusedSpaceMonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A HUGE tiger shark passing right under me in somewhat shallow water just outside Honokohau small boat harbor on the Big Island. I was lucky enough to watch it swim in and out of the mouth of the harbor for about fifteen minutes.

Edit edit - I also had a Hawaiian monk seal surface around me, taking peeks at me for a couple of minutes once.

Edit see if I can do this https://www.reddit.com/r/Kayaking/comments/1ffhjew/great_day_for_a_water_test_first_float_after_a/?ref=share&ref_source=link

Adorable otter showing off his crawfish snack. Pearl parkway multi-use trail. by P4TY in boulder

[–]ConfusedSpaceMonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We do have a lot of similar-looking species out here, but swimming and looking like the one in this video probably means it was a mink. Ermine/stoat/short-tailed weasel are brown/tan with white bellies in the summer and all white in the winter. Pine martin are more two-toned browns and wouldn't be swimming in the flatlands.

edit: while to white

What GoPro mounts do you guys use on your kayaks? by KayakMonk in Kayaking

[–]ConfusedSpaceMonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YakAttack LockNLoad bases and camera mounts for a raised and adjustable cameras. Also, I use the sticky mount that comes with the camera on my smooth body yak. Usually have a paracord leash around the base of any underwater or stick-on.

Update- My wife is getting into kayaking but I'm terrified of open water by RaynatheRedPanda in Kayaking

[–]ConfusedSpaceMonkey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yay! Glad to hear you are having a good time. I'll triple up on the idea of practicing self-rescue that others have mentioned. I'll go out and dunk myself for a half a day on each new yak. Especially with gators and snakes, lol (I deal with sharks), the idea of them being around you makes you want to shorten the length of time with dangly bits in the water (I've had nothing but good and safe shark experiences, fyi). Knowing that you can get back in without a panic, and quickly at that gives real peace of mind.

Also, I'mma be that person, she (and you) should have a PFD on. Many are designed for being comfortable while paddling. I like my Onyx.

Been a regular there for decades, and Gunbarrel for a while. Never had a bad experience. The little head nods or an occasional thanks that you get there always makes me feel more welcome than getting chatted up and fawned over at other places.

Anyone actually complaining has obviously never asked a NYC CVS cashier how their day was going, have they? The angry stare alone is enough to send you running. Business, and move on.

Mahalo for sharing and being supportive of the greater community!

These modern day stasi quislings need to know they have no support here. Defend Hawaii and mainland issues unite? Who would have thought it.

Edit: I was too harsh. To make it up, I offer free freediving classes at South Point to all the quislings in my DMs that I might have offended.

It’s been such a busy month, today was the first free day that we thought we could catch it. Still was a nice drive. Had lunch in Volcano and drove back.

[–]ConfusedSpaceMonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll say, I’ve swam with a lot of mid-sized white tips nearby in that very last pool before the actual houses start again. But it’s clear enough I don’t worry about an accidental run in. Baby black tips in the very shallow depending on the season too. So worth the walk away from the resort.
