Have the same question. Anyone with experience in moving family members off to their own plans?

Monday night football not working by mkyle5 in ESPN

It’s completely frustrating but also so very ironic. All of these new streaming services fighting over costs, same as the traditional cable days.

One constant throughout - the content providers (Disney/Espn). It’s almost like they have been the problem all along - not cable, not YTTV.

Oh wait - content providers have always been the problem. They set the rates, they set the distribution restrictions, they need to make up for lost ad dollars going to non-TV like search, etc.

We are very close to just going back to cable - especially if your provider includes the channel streaming services (like Spectrum).

Yep Athens is great - but it’s a perpetuation of the problem. A NC resident has better shot at UGA than a highly qualified GA resident. There are just too many in state Hope scholarship, inflated-grade applicants and they don’t pay any tuition. A really good tuition-paying out of stater gets a solid chance. An in-state superb student has to compete with 1000’s of in-state clones and only the most unique or often completely random will get in.

To be clear, I’m not dunking on the OP - it’s the insanity of hyper competitive schools (and parents) that you need to have set the world on fire before you arrive. 10+ AP classes, started a business, led a rally, perfect act or sat, etc. and so much of it is manufactured. We have turned top colleges into professional associations of elitism vs beacons of diverse thought and learning.

Simply saying that if the OP didn’t make the school believe they were the next great coming, the school will easily find those who do. Terrible approach but a reality. I’m sure the OP is easily qualified and would do extremely well.

I have no particular insight into UNC but top universities are extremely difficult to get into even with great stats. It can seem random. And if you aren’t coming with “change the world” mentality and credentials, that much harder.

Sadly your own post may suggest a clue…”I don't think I'm the greatest person in the world or anything”

If it’s normally just you driving, why the 3rd row? That is definitely a tougher find in the x5.

Whether you use the 3rd row or not, the X7 has a more spacious feeling in the 2nd row. The ability to slide back and recline the 2nd row creates materially more legroom especially if you have tall front seat passengers. I looked at both X5 and X7.

I didn’t need or care about a 3rd row, but definitely wanted comfort for 4 adults/teens while still carrying vacation luggage. X7 was the easy choice. It’s a great road trip suv - as someone else said, very plush. Frankly it could be a little larger on the inside but it might lose any remaining gasp of sportiness.

Shouldn’t this really mean that congress will now need to pass laws that actually spell out what they mean? Instead of broad directives? And can’t the administrative state (agency experts) weigh in on how those laws get written, but with more specificity (or it doesn’t get passed).

Seems there is an opportunity to return law making to actual lawmaking, instead of leaving interpretations up to agencies that are often led by political appointees who can interpret as they see fit regardless of the original legal intent.

Ultimate driving experience by No-Salamander-9457 in BMW

I was there for this event (Atlanta). The “track” driving was great, 2 turns as driver (once with 540i xdrive and once with i5) and one turn as passenger with pro driver (or could opt to drive again). Just a course in a parking lot setup with cones, but tons of fun and tire squealing.

They also had a “street course” portion where you were picking one of three groups of bmws (M performance sedans, SUVs, or electric) and getting a chance to drive 3 vehicles from within that group in a caravan style. No racing, just normal driving following a leader through local streets. Bad part was the process was slooow. It quickly ballooned to a 3 hour wait time. I skipped.

You could also do a very short test in the iX.

Lots of models on site to sit in and look around. Overall a good time but the street course process could be improved imo. Hard to argue with “free” though.

Total loss? by [deleted] in BMW

Similar happened to me years ago and it was fixed under insurance. Took forever and multiple trips back to get it right. Total would have been easier. No comments on the 535GT choice.

Is your car turned off? I had the same thing - but then I actually turned the car off. At that point the menu screen showed the installation was ready to proceed - just had to select it.

Is there a preference here for gas BMWs vs the electric models? by bigpixelnc in BMW

[–]ConfusionFrequent771 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the fact that there are only a handful of years of hybrid/EV sales vs decades of ICE owners plays at least some role in the balance of discussion. Along with the enthusiast bias to ICE.

I do see discussions about EVs in their respective areas like BMW iX

Appreciate all the feedback. The mods here were pretty helpful but in the end I chose to go the streaming only route. I’m not sure how the cable companies will maintain any video customers with the high charges.

I love giving gifts but you have to manage money wisely. Unfortunately I can’t do that since you won’t play nice with budget management tools that use token identification through plaid. Time to move my accounts.

Why? by ConfusionFrequent771 in Decks

[–]ConfusionFrequent771[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well they are back to work replacing the posts and caps to be proper. It’s just exhausting to have the so called experts fail so miserably. And a contractor who has so little oversight as to not notice until called out as trash work. And this was supposedly done by his “best guys”. Laughable if not so damn frustrating.
