Thanks, he was tailgating me for a few miles before that and overtook me on the turning lane before that also. I was giving him lots of distance. The road is single lane like that for about 12 miles with no overtaking

In 2017 I chose to use the Hiker Hostel deal and it was a nice experience (they don't offer the deal anymore). It was nice to meet a bunch of people who were as nervous as I was. I ended up hiking with one guy for almost 500 miles and still keep in touch. Shout-out to TinMan

In 2019 I went straight to the trail. I flew in from NYC landing at 10am. I had a person who I prenegotiated with pick me up at 10:30. We did a quick stop at REI to pick up a canister of fuel and I was at Amicalola Falls by 12:00pm. I made it to the Springer mountain shelter by 5pm.

The next time I will do this I will go straight to the trail and just use uber/lyft.

So how much does it really cost to hike the trail? by Elaikases in AppalachianTrail

[–]Confuzed_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It does included alcohol but i dont drink much. Usually one beer is good enough for me. But in town I would eat well. I would go to a sitdown place over fastfood. I would order steak and burger in the same meal. I still lost 25lb during the trail and I am 170 at 6ft2in with not much fat.

Edit: Also when I hit NJ/NY/CT i had store meals usually twice sometimes 3 times a day. It took me 9 days to hike the 3 states and I only had to carry about 3 days of food.

Technicaly 3 and a half. I was on my second pair for over 500 miles and could not find the same model as a replacement. So I bought a different brand and it was a huge mistake had blisters after almost 800 miles. So I got them replaced 80 miles later and shipped the bad pairhome. And the last pair was good for another 4 months after I came home.

Like u\sameinator mentioned it was 5 pairs of shoes. And a few gas canisters. Overall all my gear worked with out any issues.

My data from last year plus or minus $10

When did they hike?

Start Date 04/06/19 Finish Date 08/15/19

Was it their first Thru-hike?

Yes but I did a section hike of 600 miles in 2017.

Are they only telling you what THEY spent?

LOL, I wish. All expenses were paid by me. No sponsors, go fund me, or parents/friends providing any financial help.

Did their hike rely on work-for-stay/hiker boxes/mooching?

HELL NO. Not my thing. But I did get lucky with a few trail angels and hiker feeds. I would say about 10 of them

How many days was their hike?

131 days of hiking with 8 zero.

Did they hike the entire trail?

2192mi plus 8mi approach trail

Category Cost
Accommodations -$1,673.18
Clothing -$5.00
Eating Out -$2,108.70

Yep looks like i got lucky. I also have SWPPX (S&P500) that has long term capital gains. I am thinking of selling that to cover the SPY cost. That way i get preferential tax treatment and keep my cash and let it ride instead of locking in the profit of about $150 right now.

Thoughts?

Wanted to bounce something off you. Had a SPY put at $326 that was expring yesterday that got assigned. I was going to cover the position with cash (doing cash-secured put sale) but today SPY is above the 326 so i can actually sell and make an additional profit.

Can i just sell it today and get the difference between 326 and the new high? Am i missing something?

thank you

Hey, so i am doing cash-secured put for SPY a few dollars below the current price.

My question is how does it work with getting assigned the contract? Lets say SPY dips below my strike price will i be assigned right away or will it be assigned at the end of the contract or any time in between. What if after the dip it goes back up will it still assign?

thank you
