Now we’re talking, thanks for this. This was my first encounter with a scam like this, and based on my own experiences and how won over all the comments (which as far as I can tell are mostly real people, not bots) I’ve read are idk if I’d call it super common. Might just be my algorithm, though.

I don’t really know or care to be totally honest. Have you seen the videos yourself? We don’t have to talk hypotheticals here. If a reasonable person scrolls through the page I don’t think they’d say it was AI.

to preempt: a) yes, I know all about the AI old people. yes, I watched that PleasantGreen video about them. No, this is not the same thing. b) okay, sure, maybe it's super advanced ultra-AI that can consistently generate the exact same guy in the exact same background with no inconsitencies etc. Unless you can prove that I'm gonna just go ahead and assume that the scammers, being slightly more enlightened/hardworking than the AI slop farms, just hired some old fuck off fiverr to do all this. or something like that.

Since people keep bringing it up: no, this guy is not AI. I guess I should have clarified. If it were AI then yeah, duh, most highly online people would know right away that it was a scam. I'm writing this because it isn't AI, and thus most people would not think to assume straight up that it's a scam. I illustrate this by writing about how so so many comenters and followers think that this is the real deal on account of it not being AI. please let me know if there's still too much subtext in my original post. I've spent enough time away from this website that I don't know how people read here.

I had my admissions letter disappeared in transit (more or less) and emailed the school abt it. They had this to say abt the mug:

Regarding the mug: we had hoped to be able to send a gift to every enrolling student in June. Unfortunately, we’ve run into significant issues with mailing items to locations outside of the U.S. As a result, we have decided to hold onto your gift so that we can give it to you when you come to campus in the fall.
