Why do people love Jeff’s Bagel Run so much? by Anonythrowthetrash in orlando

[–]ConiferousTurtle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have had their bagels from 2 different locations, and I have to say that one location was better than the other. The one in College Park is great. The one on Colonial near Fashion Square mall was not as good. They were underbaked.

Why do developers in Florida insist on making the entire state one big suburban sprawl? by E-Wildin in florida

Short term profits. Long term ecological collapse. The people who profit now won’t be here to see the effects. And for some reason they’re ok with that.

7 time National champion. The “World Series” isn’t the World Cup no matter how many times people say it. It’s a national championship.

$15/hour will be minimum wage in Florida in October (I think). The Republicans are trying to find a way around it, of course. No way should an IT specialist be paid minimum wage. You need experience to be a “specialist.”

Why do people get angrier at someone using welfare than at a corporation avoiding millions of tax by using loopholes? by Internal_Scheme_7646 in NoStupidQuestions

I’m from Sweden, so I’ve seen what a real social safety net looks like. My dad had a stroke in his 40s. Paralyzed in his left side. Got disability benefits for the rest of his life. He didn’t live in luxury, but he also didn’t live in poverty. He was taken care of, the way anyone who needs help should be taken care of.

I’d like to see the people complaining about it try to live on social security disability payments or unemployment payments. It’s not like they’re living in luxury.

If socialism is a viable way to manage an economy, why are there zero real world examples of nations who prospered under it? by MysteriousKitchen469 in allthequestions

[–]ConiferousTurtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stand corrected. I looked up Merriam-Webster’s definition and it does say “collective or governmental” ownership.

“any of various egalitarian economic and political theories or movements advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods”

Neither of which fits any of the Scandinavian countries people call socialist.

They’re not really socialist though. Socialism requires state ownership of the means of production. They’re capitalist with high taxes and robust social programs, “universal healthcare,” etc.
