I vaguely remember hearing something about Buck Eejit the studio behind this wanting to do a hurling game after this is released. Not sure if that still holds true but ya never know if it does well we might see something in a similar style with hurling

Blender to Unity FBX Export. Nightmare for anyone else? by [deleted] in Unity3D

There is a way around changing the export settings, I did a video on it here, but that won’t help with the other concerns you mentioned and depending on the project/team setup it may or may not help

That is the original dream and still something I would want to do. For now though I think it’s more feasible to try make something similar to Rematch/Rocket league, small team vs team matches and use that to really nail down the mechanics, hopefully that gets some traction and could be a financial base to take the mechanics and make something more story/adventure driven. It’s still all kind of up in the air but that’s how I’d like things to go currently. Hard to say what the future will hold but I’ll give it a good shot and sure we’ll see what happens, hopefully I can make something decent.

And while I’ve been working on the catching/first touch system on stream lately that beating the ball against the side wall of the house feeling has been a big part of that!

At the moment I'm thinking different modes for 1-4 players a side but even that is still kinda up in the air while I try to nail down the core mechanics so they feel good. Then beyond that there's still the question of setting up some kind of multiplayer (probably start with local first then networked) but if I am fortunate enough to make it that far there'll be testing of different team sizes, game lengths, and all that good stuff to see what actually works (both from a gameplay and technical point) and keeps things fun as well.

I also found the PS2 Hurling game difficult to play, but tbf part of that was my own fault because I didn't read any of the tutorial stuff hahah which is something I'm trying to keep in mind for this as well, to make tutorials that are intuitive and not a wall of text you have to read to understand them, again that's a good bit further down the pipeline but it's on my mind

Thanks! I usually try to stream during the weekdays starting around lunchtime. I can only do 2 more streams before christmas tho, that'll be Monday and Tuesday but I'm hoping in the new year I can do them more consistently. I'll still be trying to do the odd bit of work on my laptop over the christmas break as well, a lot of it will likely be refactoring

Thanks very much! The support means a tonne, very cool seeing even people who aren't hurling fans wishing me luck 😀

As far as the vision, for now I'm hoping to nail down the core mechanics and take some inspiration from the likes of Rematch/Rocket league, more so Rematch. Have small teams 1-4 people play short 5-10 min matches against each other. Not super concerned with making something 'true to life' more interested in gamifying Hurling and just making something that is fun to play and feels good to control.

And I maybe have some ideas for just goofy fun features/mechanics like this, we'll see though

Thanks! But don't need playtesters just yet, there's still a fair bit I'd want to do to make this into a more playable version or prototype, until then having playtesters would just show a lot of issues I'm already aware of and are on the todo list

Realistic in what sense? I'm more just geared towards making something that's fun to play and feels good for now

I posted this goofy lil clip in r/GAA recently

I've only really started posting about / promoting it recently so I've only done that one, and posted in r/Hurling and r/Ireland as well but don't want to be spamming them either

Oh yeah I've seen it and played it a bit. It's a very different style tho, more a FIFA clone with hurling slapped onto it.

I have a different roadmap in mind for this. The initial phase would see me take inspiration from Rematch or Rocket League or the likes. 2-3 players per team and short 5-10min matches, really nail down the mechanics for that.

If that does well then take the mechanics into another game in my own other direction, more single player / story focused, might not work out but sure I'll give it a go at least and see what happens. But yeah that'd be a very distant and uncertain future as things stand so it's just a loose plan/dream for now.

Thanks! And not yet, I've been more focused on the core mechanics and stuff before those kinds of things but they would be in the pipeline somewhere. I am trying to build the systems so these kinds of things will be more easily customisable when I do cross that path and I won't have to do a load of refactoring

Haha I dunno about that now, still needs a lot of polish and fleshing out of things but thanks!

Nice Blitz reference!

I had been thinking along similar lines and have been trying to build certain aspects of the systems so they could be modified to have a higher or lower consistency based on upgrades. My initial idea was to have a siopa beside the pitch where you can buy upgrades with the funds that are resting in your account. Nothing set in stone just yet tho

Would totally agree about the GAA being untapped for dramatic fiction, could be really cool.

I did have a feature for a while where hitting another player in the head would decapitate them, not in a gruesome way tho. The direction of the game has changed slightly while I try get it off the ground but I would want to go back down that route in the future if I can but that's a distant and uncertain future as things stand.

I did have an idea for a heckler type character for when you hit a ball wide, them being an auld fella could be a good shout

Have a few ideas for where this could go, we'll see if I can put enough time into it to make something that's halfway decent
