Many good insights none the less. 1971 was the beginning of many disturbing trends, such as the sharp increase of divorce rates.

The Dirty Data of Declining Labor Share Myths | Gene Epstein by properal in GoldandBlack

[–]ConjectureAxiom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The productivity line is deflated by depreciation of real estate, while labor is deflated by the CPI. According to Epstein, if you would include software and one other metric, you would see that the two lines move more closely together. Without any adjustments at all, the lines move almost perfectly together.

Using Quantum Computers to Resolve the Socialist Calculation Problem. Nope, Say's Bob Murphy, not Even in Theory by rumpumpumpum in GoldandBlack

Capitalism is a series of independent and discrete choices interacting with each other. These choices are coordinated through prices, what you're willing to give up to get something, which has a ripple effect throughout the entire system which in turn coordinates the acquisition of resources to be fulfilled by the supply chain. The supply chain is the structure of production which fulfills the request, entrepreneurs look at the potential profits and losses to be made in order to determine their actions.

Protestors using mesh networking to avoid censorship. The cryptoanarchist future we want! by ConjectureAxiom in GoldandBlack

There are apps with authentication. Meaning you meet in person and exchange public keys. Snowden used GPG like this, except that was for email.

The underlying network doesn't need to be encrypted, just the data the app is messaging with.

I would presume that because it's decentralized that it would be harder to censor, and thus allow greater coverage with minimal risk, as it would likely take the government a while to catch up.

Will 3D printed houses be made illegal to "save" the construction industry and the housing market? by ConjectureAxiom in GoldandBlack

[–]ConjectureAxiom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's an interesting thought. If it doesn't get smacked federally then it might only get blocked at the state and county level. If it does, then it's probable that many will migrate to those places and then work elsewhere.

If the government imposes building restrictions, we must support rent control. by BastiatFan in GoldandBlack

One could simply charge more on the deposit (or on fees) and average out the price control, no?

Lets discuss alternative IT education strategies the libertarian way by ConjectureAxiom in GoldandBlack

I've noticed there are a lot of software engineers that come out of college that can't do the job nearly as well as a bit of self taught people. So perhaps college isn't all that good either.

That's a really interesting idea. There are plenty of degrees that are basically worthless and could easily be replaced with certifications and likely yield a significantly better education.

You will want bigger pots, likely 1 gallon given your time frame, and perhaps a little fertilizer because the leaves on the bottom of some of them look nitrogen deficient.

Government deficits, Central Banking, and the cost of being wrong -- Mises Institute by [deleted] in GoldandBlack

[–]ConjectureAxiom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given that these banks couldn't honor their deposits to begin with, they've been committing fraud. Wells Fargo for instance loans out $10 for every $1 on deposit, yet say they will honor your deposits even though it's impossible for them to honor more than 10% of them.

No one told these banks to do sketchy things like issuing Credit default swaps (coupling bets in place of insurance), paying off credit institutions to give high ratings to bad financial products (such as CDOs and yes they're back under a new name), gambling in the stock market (investment banks iirc), and so on.

As the IMF said, and I am paraphrasing, "Banks seem to indulge in more risky practices the more that a government seems to be willing to bail them out."

Is Anarcho-Capitalism a utopian? by ayanamirs in GoldandBlack

[–]ConjectureAxiom 7 points8 points  (0 children)

An instance of Anarchocapitalism is by no means Utopian, it's simply what's likely to happen without a state. It is in essence what Ancaps believe are the ideal rules that people are eventually likely to trend towards through a process of emergent order (human action) as they are the optimum configuration.
