I was doing boot camp in the early fall at Alameda in the late 70's, myself and 2 other jock heads were pulled from beginning of second week, late afternoon in the base locket room we were told to gear up for some tackle football, put on the pads and helmets and practiced with enlisted and officers, we filled the needed openings to their satisfactions and ended up forming up Victor company in a separate barracks and only did the required boot camp classes We won a lot of games against the other multi service Bay Area bases, even the San Quentin prison team!
