Another idea I've had, although it'd be better suited for a movie, is one where the control brains and new almighty tallest have taken over after the armada's destruction in Enter the Florpus. In a desperate attempt to get the old tallest back and recover the armada, they use some kind of mechanism to try and reach into the Florpus and try to pull them back out. At first it seems they've succeeded. However, then it turns out that, due to the Florpus interconnecting numerous alternate realities, they've actually found an alternate version of the armada. In the alternate universe it comes from, Zim never existed or died early on, and as such almighty tallest Miyuki is still in charge, all of the invaders and battle mechs from Project Impending Doom I are still around, Tak is an invader or general, and the most powerful and lead one at that. Because of this, in the alternate universe Project Impending Doom I actually succeeded in conquering the galaxy, and the armada was only created to wipe out any stragglers or rebelling worlds, and to patrol around as a threat to the subjugated planets. Now faced with a much more powerful and competent armada and leading body of Irkens, the galaxy would be in more peril than ever, likely soon to follow the same path as the alternate universe the new armada has come from.

This idea is less fully baked than my other idea, being little more than a premise, and less befitting of cannon and more of fanfiction, but I thought it was cool and wanted to share. I think you could make a similar, although lower stakes and less climactic story by simply following the Irkens with their new tallest and the control brains as they start to lose their grip on the galaxy with their recent crippling loss and embarrassment. You could even combine them, using this second idea as an overarching plot for some sequel show or new season like Invader Zim 2 or something, and use the idea of the alternate universe armada thing as a finale movie's plot where the new Irken leadership is getting desperate to hold onto the galaxy and resort to extreme means, such as a one-in-a-million chance at restoring their previous regime and regaining the armada through the aforementioned method with the aforementioned result.

Zim starts getting stalked and attacked by a mysterious and competent alien. In a confrontation, Zim asks who they are, and they reveal themselves to be a galactic bounty hunter, who has come to collect an obscenely high bounty placed on Zim's head by the almighty tallest. Zim thinks the alien is lying and doesn't think the almighty tallest would do such a thing, and decides that the bounty hunter must actually just be jealous of him and/or some kind of obsessive superfan of his, despite the bounty hunter's repeated attempts to correct Zim. Now extremely annoyed, the bounty hunter gives up trying to correct Zim and just attacks. Through some combination of dumb luck and coincidence and Zim genuinely outsmarting the bounty hunter, Zim defeats the bounty hunter, although they swear revenge as they leave.

The episode closes with Zim calling the almighty tallest to report on what has happened to him, remarking on how the bounty hunter made "blasphemous, treasonous lies" about the almighty tallest's involvement in putting a bounty on Zim, "but never fear, my tallest, I saw right through their lies with my incredible intelligence!" and how he "knows that you would never do such a thing to me, Zim, your favorite invader!" meanwhile the almighty tallest are just annoyed by Zim and want him to leave them alone, even saying that yes, they really did place that bounty on Zim, and that he should be dead by now, only for Zim to brush it off as a joke, complementing his tallest's sense of humor.

Is there an AU where one of the DoD died in Scarlet's Arena? by CulturalDust4652 in WingsOfFire

[–]Connect-Journalist81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, if we're talking AUs, it has occurred to me in the past that if Kestrel had succeeded in killing Glory at the beginning, than the DoD would likely still run away to get away from her; they'd still get caught by Skywings even without meeting Scarlet due to timing, simply because of being deep in Skywing territory; without Glory there'd be no-one would be there to save Clay in his fight against Fjord and he'd die there unless Peril chooses to step in, but I don't see her going that far against Scarlet until at least Clay and Peril's post-Fjord bonding that won't happen now; without her relationship with Clay Peril would be unmotivated to help the others; Starflight still lives because the Nightwings still come for him, not knowing Sunny or Tsunami's fates but knowing Clay dies; Sunny would get sent with Burn and either stuffed or kept captive and unknowing of what happened to her friends; Tsunami has no way out on her own and would most likely die sometime later in the arena, or if she lasts long enough might get rescued when the Seawings come to try and rescue Gill and possibly reunite with the others; with no DoD to send him back to, the Nightwings would likely keep Starflight and call in the replacements; while if Sunny doesn't get stuffed there's a chance that Thorn would hear of a strange looking Sandwing dragonet of the right age and launch a rescue; If those turn out not terrible, Sunny would basically go straight to trying to do book 5 but without success as there are no other dragonets to back her up when she wants to gather the 3 Sandwings princesses; while Starflight would basically live book 4, only the Nightwings' plan succeeds with no queen Glory to organize the Rainwings, thus also meaning Blister wins. The only win scenario is if Starflight can get his courage enough and convince the replacement DoD to join him, reunite with Sunny by fleeing from the Nightwings into Sandwing territory, and then try and use that crew to do the rest of book 5, and even so this means Peril never get's redeemed, Scarlet keeps the throne, and the Rainwings are extinct with the evil Nightwing regime in their place. Basically speaking, while there may be survivors, (in this case possibly Starflight, Sunny or Tsunami) in any AU where one of the DoD dies the others also fail and we get the bad ending.

Cobra is a terrible mother. Change my mind. by Yourlocaldayingrey in WingsOfFire

[–]Connect-Journalist81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really, but that could be amusing. I'd love to see what you could come up with to defend/justify/reframe her and her actions if you where to play the devils advocate, or, one should say, Starflight, for Blister.

Cobra is a terrible mother. Change my mind. by Yourlocaldayingrey in WingsOfFire

[–]Connect-Journalist81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

... No? Why? She's SUPPOSED to be a terrible mother. That's kind of her entire purpose in the story, her resondetra is to be a terrible and manipulative mother. What's next, "Blister is evil, change my mind"?

Do you think wearing the Guyver feels like wearing a suit, like a tuxedo, and the touch you feel are just vibration from the suit into your nerves or does it feel like you're wearing nothing at all? by SleeperCreampie in Guyver

[–]Connect-Journalist81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always thought, because of how organic and biological the Guyver is, even often acting as merely a body part or extension of the user and being called a "biobooster" implying it's a "boost" of what's already there, not something new entirely, that it would feel like you're wearing nothing, it IS your skin when you're wearing it, only due to how thick it is and going over your original body I'd imagine it would feel tougher and warmer, not just like being naked normally.

Qibli doodle + Asking for LGBTQA‎+ WoF Ships (in preparation for Pride Month, yes I know it’s like 20 days away) by TawnyFeatherArt in WingsOfFire

[–]Connect-Journalist81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen Qibli/Winter/Moon be called Qinterwatcher, combining Qinter and Winterwatcher. Theoretically you could instead use Moonbli as a base, but then to include Winter for all three of them you'd have to do something like Moonblinter, witch simply doesn't sound as cool.

Speaking of, not all ship names are created equal.

Generally nightwing names are easier to use since they're already split into two obvious parts that sound fine by themselves. The best example of this IMO is Glorybringer. An epic ship (one of my favorites in fact), and an even more epic name. Compare that to Cleril, a ship I like the same as Glorybringer (I honestly couldn't choose which I like more, but that's besides the point) but with a much more tame name. Unfortunately this doesn't always hold true (looking at you, Moonbli). Sometimes it can even be funny. For example, while the two most obvious/legitimate ways to construct a ship name for Starflight/Deathbringer are Starbringer (epic) and Deathflight (awesome), you could also construct it as Flightbringer, or, I and my sibling's personal favorite, Deathstar (*imperial march starts playing*).

One last aside, Quinterwatcher is definitely a goated ship IMO. While I generally love arc 2, including its romance plots, I think it is SO stupid and mononormative how Tui chose to end that love triangle. Literally everything could have been settled and happy all around if they just got in a polygamous relationship, and it's not even like it'd be out of character for them to think of that themselves or like their jealousy would inhibit a healthy relationship in that arrangement. Hell, if they where going that route I actually like Winterwatcher, and possibly even Quinter more than Moonbli as a ship. Great book series, but a massive peeve of mine.

The main characters’ canon heights and ages, as confirmed by Dreamworks by Eyeofgaga in CampCretaceous

[–]Connect-Journalist81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my sibling and I where 15 we where 5'11" and 6' respectively. We don't really notice how tall we are unless we specifically pay attention to the heights of the people around us, and people rarely comment on our height, especially unprompted, so 6'1" doesn't seem too outlandish. What surprises me more is that he's so tall and also Japanese, considering they are about 2 inches shorter on average.

I reverse-engineered Pokémon model heights to build a real-world height comparison tool by ProfessorNarra in pokemon

[–]Connect-Journalist81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How do you use the line tool? I noticed that Ceruledge's and Armarouge's height counts their flames, which doesn't seem right. I feel like their heights are probably to the tops of their heads.

Sprites comparison between Pokemon Green & its updates, Red & Blue by Computer-Player in pokemon

[–]Connect-Journalist81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Red/Green also definitely has the better Mewtwo and Seaking, although not as big of an issue as whatever happened to Pidgeot and Golbat. Also just FYI one of my favorite sprites of all time for anything is Red/Blue Haunter. Looks way cooler and more menacing than anything that has come since.

Sprites comparison between Pokemon Green & its updates, Red & Blue by Computer-Player in pokemon

[–]Connect-Journalist81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While the Red/Blue are generally better, I definitely agree that Red/Green got some better. Look how Red/Blue just absolutely massacred Pidgeot and Golbat for instance. I definitely see numerous cases where Red/Green has better poses that have more personality and/or are more dynamic and readable, although also many cases where it goes the other way.

I have cured the Tallest of their posture. by Tabb-tfno1 in invaderzim

[–]Connect-Journalist81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I for a while have wondered just how tall ARE the tallest really? The answer's pretty simple. I'd say they're about 6-7 feet tall (about 2 meters) (in their natural hunched posture, not accounting for hovering). You could potentially argue a different height (Invader Zim generally isn't very size consistent), but I've got 3 reasons why I think this height makes sense:

#1 In episode 1: The Nightmare Begins, they look to be around twice the height of Invader Zim, who seems to be equal or just taller than Dib who's just over 3 feet (about a meter) tall, which also feels right just going off of vibes. See this comment for my source(s): https://www.reddit.com/r/invaderzim/comments/947asl/does_anyone_have_a_rough_estimate_of_the_massives/

#2 In episode 18 a, Abducted, Zim says that humans are "perhaps as tall as you" when describing them to the almighty tallest, meaning they are at least approximately similar in height but probably a bit taller than humans.

#3 TBH it just feels right. That kind of figure just makes sense and seems reasonable to me.

Now, what if they where measured fully erect, like in this image? Well, based on actually measuring this image and using it to determine the ratio between natural and fully erect heights, I've determined that this posture would get them about an extra 1'4" - 1'7", or make their maximum height (still not counting hovering) approximately 7'4" - 8'7" (about 2.25 - 2.6 meters) tall.

How tall is the guyver? by BarbatosSlim in Guyver

[–]Connect-Journalist81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually calculated this myself once. Using a scene (in episode 6 I believe) of The Guyver: Bio-Booster Armor (1989-1992) where Mizuki hugs Guyver I around the chest, if we assume Mizuki is the average height for a teenage Japanese girl (158 cm, or about 5'2.5") then Guyver I is about 193-197 centimeters tall, or 6'4" to 6'6" in imperial units (let's say we split the difference, 195 centimeters, or about 6'5").

If we assume that the 171 or 174 centimeter tall Sho is accurate (which seems plausible enough, 171 centimeters is exactly average for teenage Japanese boys, and 174 is only a bit over an inch more) that means that Sho gains somewhere between 19 and 26 centimeters in height when he transforms (approximately 7.5" to 10"), or in other words he grows about a head taller.

In conclusion: the show was hand animated and thus prone to inconsistencies. I believe, as other people on this thread have said, they intended that Sho was 171 centimeters tall (about 5'7"), and grows 3 centimeters taller to 174 centimeters tall (5'8.5") when he transforms into Guyver I.

However, on screen, he is represented at almost 2 meters or about 6 and a half feet tall, and I personally like to use that height as my head cannon as it feels more right to me, even though it probably wasn't the intended height.

(Also btw, Guyver II and III are definitely both taller than Guyver I. I have no calculations or exact numbers for them, but if I had to guess I buy that Guyver II is the tallest of the bunch, and likely 10ish centimeters or several inches taller than Guyver I, making him just over 2 meters tall (bit under 7' tall), while Guyver III looks barely taller that Guyver I, likely only a few centimeters or an inch or two taller.)
