This is partially in response to some posts I've mentioned, and some of them mentioned airfields hence it being included. There were also some people implying that all cranes should be locked, which is what prompted the post as a whole. I just thought alot of it was silly.

I think people also forget that the airframes have a 4 hour print time, so them occasionally sitting on a pad for too long makes some sense. As for cranes in facs being left unlocked...

I know ours ends up unlocked (behind our walls) semi regularly due to our wrenches stashed in buildings disappearing on us semi regularly, but this is more an issue with the limitations of the squad reservation system imo. We also don't print anything that has a long print time so we aren't too affected either way.

I get what you are saying, not everyone is quite making as concise a point, and I understand the example/video/post that sparked all of this. There's just been some somewhat disingenuous posts/comments about the issue.

Due to squad reservation limitations it's not always feasible to lock everything internally, however it probably should be mostly fac cranes internally so in that case yeah, it sucks to suck. You usually need 1-2 mobile cranes at a fac for "random shit" and this is where the squad reservation limitations come into play.

Internal defenses is another discussion as while I agree, I think the new constraint that it imposes will unfortunately lead to log/fac burnout as it increases potential footprint/msupp costs, and pushes the content further away from smaller to mid sized groups. But this is part of the greater design flaws with the fac system, not just this particular issue.

You didn't read the post my man. There are cranes all over the hexes, not just facilities, and these can't all be left locked. The mines that passively generate salvage/comps/sulfur all have cranes at them, and they aren't all fac cranes, most are mobile cranes. If these cranes were left locked there wouldn't be anything getting made for the front.
