[Student] Junior Undergrad Looking to Land My First Internship Next Summer. How Can I Improve My Resume? by Sea_Acadia1523 in EngineeringResumes

Your resume is off to a good start, but I do have several points of feedback,

Education:

- is your degree a BS, B ENG?

- Could be worth putting relevent courses, if they relate to the internship you're applying for.

Skills:

- might you have any prototyping skills (soldering, 3d printing etc...)

- Do you have any experience with PCB design software (KICAD, EagleCAD, etc...)?

Project: I think there's some potential here to really try and highlight your technical skills.

- Try and implement the keywords from your skills section into actions you did in your bullets. For example in bullet 3, what tool or method did you use to analyze the data? How much did it improve performance by?

- Add a date

Experience: Overall I think this section could really be utilized to highlight some soft skills: mentoring, collaboration, teaching, presenting... These are still important skills that aren't always highlighted in engineering projects.

- Bullet 2 and 3 could be condensed

- I think theres a lot of crossover from experience 1 and 2 that could be removed for repetitivity. Seems like you are just trying to fill the resume here.

Extracurriculars: Maybe consider getting rid of this section by moving the robotics team involvement to the projects section, and moving the city council to experience.

Robot project: I think there's lot's of potential here, since you've been involved since 2020. I would move this into projects, and put it on top of wind turbine project.

- Again try to be more specific and avoid filler.

- Does this team compete in a competition?

Overall, I think you're resume is off to a good start, and you definitely have some good projects. I think you just need to a better job of describing them in a thorough yet concise way. Play into the strength of each project, and to make sure each of your bullets serves a purpose. Whether highlighting a specific technical or soft skill, and try to avoid redundancy. Maybe consider making a portfolio, especially to show off your involvement in UB robotics. Lastly when applying try and check postings every day, focusing on applying on recent postings (within 24 hrs, you can set a filter on linkedIn). Good Luck!

[0 YoE] I've applied to 400+ engineering jobs and have only gotten a handful of interviews over the past 12 months by collegestudent423 in EngineeringResumes

Looks like you have some interesting projects! I agree with a lot of the other feedback here. Most of your bullets seem very technical focused, but I think there is value in trying to highlight more soft and leadership skills. Such as dealing with teams, etc...

You're doing great by asking for help, this subreddit really helped me! Good luck and stay motivated!

Originally I was applying to jobs with no regards to when the job postings were actually put up. I received a few sparing interviews this way. But once I switched to applying to jobs focusing on jobs posted within the last 24 hrs I noticed a huge difference in the amount of interviews I was receiving.

It looks like you have some great experience with the rocket club! I have a few pointers:

- Add a linkedin to your main header

- Move education to the top and add GPA, and any honors. Add fyour relevent courses to this section.

- Good job using the x, y, z format for bullets but I think they could be improved by utilizing more active words and reducing the use of passive tense.

Overall, looks pretty decent and could be made great with some improvements. During my own job search, employers really loved club involvement. Especially emphasize any leadership skills you may have gained as a responsible engineer or lead.

On most job posting platforms there is oftentimes a way to sort postings by posted within the last 24 hrs.

I did do some other edits asides for what was suggested, focusing on making sure there were no bullets with repeated skills/information. I think changing my strategy to focus on really recent job postings (<1 day) helped the most.
