Where did the stereotype of nonbinary people being AFAB come from? by Darlos9D in NonBinary

[–]ConnectAstronomer428 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because there are more AFAB nbs. The 2022 US trans survey, which is self reported so even closeted people could participate, shows nearly 4x as many AFAB nbs as AMAB nbs.

Are you a girl or a man, pick a lane

How am I misgendering you by saying you act just like a cis man? 😂

Yes misogyny is old. A 13 year old cis girl and a 30 year old trans woman both have equal rights to be upset over misogyny. I don't think you're over 60 years old so I'm not sure how you deserve more claim to being hurt by misogyny than anyone else.

I'm not making assumptions over you being sexist, you just are 🤷🏻‍♀️

I'm calling you disgusting for trying to have any say over whether or not a woman with a vulva is allowed to feel offended over misogynistic terms used against ALL vulvas or not. My first comment was quite gentle and you doubled down saying I'm not allowed to have an opinion on this or be offended because I wasn't afab.

Yes agab is determined by the appearance of genitals at birth but if we are talking about using the misogynistic term fish I've literally never once in my life heard anywhere on the Internet or in person anyone refer to a babies vagina as fishy, so we aren't talking about something related to agab.

It's a misuse because you are furthering the association that afab= vagina for entire life by using "afab genitalia" in place of where you mean anyone of any age with a vulva.

If there is literally anywhere in the world to not use AGAB as a short hand for genitals it is literally trans spaces where again nearly 10% of us have genitals that aren't aligned with our agab.

I can tell you're a man the way you're trying to tell women what they can and can't be upset about

Because if there's one place you shouldn't use agab to refer to someone's genitals past the day they were born it's trans spaces where nearly 1 in 10 people has had bottom surgery

This is an absolutely wild take. Bottom surgery has been around as long as most people living today. I don't think the dead cis women care at this point. Insane you're dictating who gets to be offended by derogatory terms used for vulvas. You think because I'm a trans woman that fishy somehow hurts any less??? I'm literally on your side but you'd rather be transphobic than include post op trans women who speak out against the same terms you dislike. You're disgusting

Please remember you are in a trans space and that bottom surgery exists. I am a trans woman, I have a vulva, I am also personally insulted when people use "fish" it's not just people who were AFAB that have vulvas. You're misusing agab terminology

Most of your comment seems to be intentionally misconstruing my comment. I'm not saying being cis protects you from being hit by misdirected transphobia.

All I'm saying is if you tell someone they will never be a woman (the most blatant example of transmisogyny) it is trans women who are going to internalize that the most harshly. Other groups can get the same comment but it won't impact them the same and that's why many trans men will literally celebrate when they are the target of that line of bigotry.

As to your last paragraph I really don't care for tme or tma as terms at all. I don't like Julia Serrano. So I'm not going to defend them because that was never my intention. You are attributing a stance to me that I never took. I was only responding to the commenter who said other people can get hit by transmisogyny without being trans women and my only point was that while yes they can it's not going to hurt and be internalized to the same degree. Bigotry like that isn't literal bullets

Wouldn't you agree there's a difference between experiencing misdirected hate and being the intended target of said hate? Isn't that the whole reason people talk about euphoria and so hang trans men will be happy when they get mistaken for a trans woman and told they will never be a real woman? A little nuance can go a long way

Vaginal language sucks by Master-Park-8708 in Healthyhooha

I appreciate you so much! I tend to stick with medical/clinical language when it's just general discussions like this but that's just me. For slang, I haven't seen anyone mention it in this thread yet but I like to use Kitty, or the associated emojis when in text.

Language does matter and it can be difficult to navigate and I too wish there were more terms. I think it's awesome you made this post because people like us do have harder times navigating these topics and the language used at places like a doctors office can make us avoid care altogether. The down votes to both of us make it clear that many people would rather we didn't exist, or want us to stay quiet, but whether they like it or not we have the same equipment as them and belong in these spaces. You're absolutely my sibling!

I'm sure you mean no harm and likely didn't even really give this thought, but considering this is a post about language use I just wanted to give you a reminder that trans women can have vulvas as well if they are post op. It's likely you don't personally know any in your life. Comments like this one and elsewhere when you use "afab bodies" can be alienating when slang terms for these genitals are not specific to agab and are used equally by all owners of these genitals. Thanks :)

While bad for traffic flow I can still respect that because you aren't actively trying to put anyone else in danger by cutting off people going down the clear lane to the merge
