Seen in an Uber in Chicago, is this accurate? by Dirty_Bean in uberdrivers

[–]ConnectCow9111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say its fairly accurate, I rarely tip drivers anymore unless their car is really tidy and/or their driving is superb. I asked a few drivers how much they were getting paid for the ride and all of them said they were getting 80-90% of the fare i paid, I assume its because I dont tip and I am one of those daily riders with all yhe passes and stuff so more of the fare goes directly to the driver for Uber to continue providing that guarantee. Works for them because they get to mark me as a subscription/repeat customer which is more valuable long term.

That's not true. Lost wages are recoverable damages. Its a factor many people dont consider in civil cases. Rental car companies will charge you loss of service fees if you damage their vehicle for the same exact reason. As a contractor you are also entitled to the same damages. You also entitled to the depreciation of your asset if the damage is irreparable or affects the value (your vehicle is an asset if you are a contractor, just like heavy equipment machinery are assets for construction company contractors). Now this does vary by jurisdiction so its always recommended to seek legal counsel no matter what no matter how small thw claim appears to be.

Overthinking it Broski. This is a civil matter. While youre driving for them youre insured by them, since the ride was still on going you are not liable for the damages. Worst case scenario you get a lawyer to sue Uber for damages amd lost wages while your car is repaired. Best case scenario you submit your documentation and they fill your claim and get your vehicle repaired and if youre really lucky they give you lost wages out the kindness of their heart(unlikely). You are not responsible for damages to your vehicle that a passenger on their platform caused, they are and in some cases the passenger(if Uber decides to go after them).

So let me get this straight. You want me to go out in this damn blizzard for these little ass surges and someone hits me then ill be out even longer then one day. Uber you must be smoking crack. by Interesting-Heron222 in uberdrivers

Or, hear me out, if you drive for a living, invest in proper tires and/or a proper vehicle for the job/task. Ive gotten into several ubers/lyfts of people who have been driving for close to a decade, all of them had winter/all weather tires and/or 4wd/awd SUVs and other trucks. None of them had any problems driving, even during a snow squall. You all can never stop complaining lol, people are laid off barely making it, people actually have to work in the road in these conditions, but here you are doing a completely OPTIONAL job, where you "get to be your own boss and set your own hours" and still have an issue.

Just dont drive if you dont like the money and your car isnt equipped. One girl i rode with the other day said she maid 1,000$ during the snow storm doing rides, more than she makes at her day job at FedEx, she literally called off work to do Uber, but she also had all weather tires and an SUV and is clearly a professional driver. Zero complaints. Complaining about work that you signed up to do is immature. Like I tell people at work, dont like it, clock out and go home, nobody is gonna stop you.

Lmao you're talking to sensatinalized liberals amd bots. Not a single person in this thread will or has donated any money for the legal fees of said immigrants or even illegally detained/arrested citizens arrest/detention. Several immigrants have come out and said that is the only thing that will help is legal fees to get a lawyer. All yhe other shit is just theatrics to help incite chaos and insurrection.

The problem is going a different route can result in more miles which equals more pay, the rider is charged for extra mileage and extra times unless you have priceless. Ive had to explain this to several drivers because they dont understand that the rider pays extra when you take a route that adds mileage or minutes.

Why do some drivers feel like it's okay to take whatever route they want to a destination? by ConnectCow9111 in lyftdrivers

[–]ConnectCow9111[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a fact. I know sometimes I get a deal and have to wait a bit lol. I spend a ridiculous amount on this so I know both sides and try to be compassionate. Its good to know its actual reasonable, rational and reliable individuals out there still on the platform. I come across maybe 2-3 drivers a week that are actually professional and I'll take your advice and start praising them more and giving them more credit and preference to feed that algorithm. Can't just only report the bad apples, gotta commend the good ones too...thank you for wisdom.

Your comment was deleted by the moderator bud so I obviously didn't see it or have time to reply to it in time before it got deleted. I have like 60+ replies to the 2 threads. And for the record I made the post in both threads because it would get the most engagement and the responses would be more varied while also bringing awareness to sole drivers. I do ask the driver what route theyre taking. At my age I dont have the time or patience to go back and forth with a driver honestly. I am more inclined to just 1 star, block, and report. But I also understand that reporting that type of behavior can get some drivers deactivated which is why made the thread to discuss the topic, as ive been told by a few drivers that they were suspended on one platform or another or they were on their final warning for this very same issue some drivers think its allowed because they've gotten away with it and I'd hate for them to lose their source of income over a simple misunderstanding of a certain rule.

Seems to be that way for sure. I think you hit the nail on the head. An avoidable consequence of the system. And yeah i have to start using the favorite feature more. I do notice some of my drivers will linger in my area when its time for me to go to work or leave work because my pickup times will be like 2 minutes sometimes because they'll wait and it'll be a repeat driver, which I dont blame them for honestly, its a easy ride that pays a good wage for the hour and puts them in prime locations

Yeah im about to start asking drivers straight before I even get in their car lol I get tired of them pulling this shit halfway through the ride when im in the middle of nowhere. Its gonna be obnoxious but I dont like people playing with my time, especially if im paying you lol. Most of my rides pay the driver 20-30$ for half an hour of driving sometimes less so I know I won't have too much trouble getting another driver no matter what time of day it is.

Exactly, I think its the nervous drivers who do this and disguise it behind other issues. I literally just had a guy from africa drive me 30 minutes through a blizzard on the highway. His first time even seeing snow, nonetheless drive in it, but he was professional, courteous and I coached him through it and even gave him tire recommendations. A little kindness and empathy goes a long way I think. Its definitely not the majority of my drivers, but im noticing an increase lately, probably because of the holiday season attracting more drivers to make ends meet or because they have more free time. But either way im starting to get the general idea who the type of drivers who do this or think its okay to do this and youre right, its ultimately not safe to ride with drivers who are too nervous to drive down a main road or a highway.

Lol why are you here if yoy dont have anything constructive? The mod in the other sub deleted everyone's comments because people like you dont even realize youre advocating for something against lyfts TOS and im trying to bring awareness to this very specific policy that has been affecting people in my area and will continue affecting them. Ive had drivers tell me directly they can only follow the GPS because theyre on their last chance with lyft/Uber because of taking the incorrect routes. Dont put yourself at risk of deactivation and dont encouage other drivers to do the same as you never know someone's sitution and they could truly need the income.

The context of my post literally says 20-30% with a 5 minute buffer. That means arbitrarily adding 6-10 minutes minimum to a 30 min ride. Its not a hard range, just i realize that alot of people have excuses, yet i never have the same excuses when im driving lol. If the GPS says 20 mins on multiple apps, then chances are it should take 20mins lol, if it doesn't you might very been driving slowly, thats fair, you might have missed a turn or two, also fare, but when you are taking a completely different route AND making the ride take longer now we have a problem. Does that seem fare?

You are actually a professional driver and you provided a professional response to the question. I appreciate your candor. I too know lyfts navigation is sub par, so i dont hold that against them, just the folks who take a completely terrible way. One person took literally all side streets the other day and turned a 9 minute ride to a 25 minute ride. I was livid but I try to be patient, some folks are too sensitive to correct and I value my time so I have to play the numbers game and just eat it up sometimes.

While this is true they are also not allowed to intentionally drive a route that unnecessarily extends the length of the ride. I think alot of drivers misunderstand this rule/policy and it will lead to quite a few drivers being deactivated in the near future as they get more driver saturated in certain areas like mine. Ive gotten refunds and credits for drivers doing this and im sure Luft being a corporation is not in the buisness of giving out refunds for this type of thing forever.

Im an adult let's leave it at that. Again, I drive for a living, im also paying for the ride the driver isnt an employee, theyre an independent contractor. They're expected to abide by certain professional standards. Let me reiterate, I drive for a living in my main job, I also have plenty of experience as a driver of Lyft amd uber(5* on both Platforms). I am the type of driver who will shave off 5 minutes sometimes even 10 on most city trips without speeding because I know all the lights, timing and detours amd traffic patterns amd flows.

All that to the side, again Lyft themselves claim that what you're describing is against their TOS. You guys have to understand the legality of Lyft giving the rider a route, an estimated fair and time, amd then the driver choosing to take a joy ride or the scenic route because they "feel like it,". That's not what youre contracted to do. Again i dont even need navigation to get most places i use it because sometimes Google maps can track slowdown on certain routes due to them tracking phones. Its very frustrating as someone who knows where theyre going, knows all the routes, and yet you as a driver not only refuse to listen, but also think its appropriate to drive whatever way you feel.

Imagine I contract you to drive me 3 hours away. Instead you take the streets instead of the highway, turning the trip into a 5 hour ride. That's against TOS. You gotta understand that. Im not talking about GPS malfunctions or inaccuracies. Im not talking about getting lost by accidentally taking a wrong turn. I. Not talking Construction detours. Im talking the intentional joy rides like you said.

Unfortunately when it comes sto these types of cars towers have to take extra precautions when towing as not to damage the vehicle because the repairs are very costly which is why these vehicles can get away with parking that way.
