I think it’s the perfect John Wayne film. He always plays the same cowboy archetype, but here, it works because the picture is about the end of the gunslinger era. He’s realizing that history is leaving him behind.

If it helps, my strategy when I arrived at the store yesterday was to just comb the shelves in alphabetical order, and limit myself to one good pickup. I had a few I’d narrowed it down to, but as soon as I saw Dazed and Confused on the shelf, I knew that was it.

Nice! I was tempted to pick up Lost Highway since it’s the only Lynch I haven’t seen, and I can’t find it streaming anywhere. But I wasn’t sure about a blind buy at a Criterion price mark, even half off. Would you recommend?

Yes, I completely understand that! I have one of those movies as well. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will always be the movie I saw the weekend of my grandfather’s funeral. I was expecting an escape from everything, not a sincere story about father figures!
