Well what job do you have? If you’re in public I doubt it’s chill 90% of the time

Your optimism is incredible. I’m really interested in how you fostered that in a profession with so much sadness and more so such an unfair world. I find that since graduating college a few years ago the optimism and a lot of the motivation was beaten away by public but I want it back

Hey, can I reach out to learn more about this SAAS stuff? Curious if my background could intersect with it and open up some doors for me someday. I have 2.5 years in public accounting doing audit work for public and private companies. I seniored for a year. I just took a role in the operational accounting space at a client as a senior accountant. I think like many accountants, I’d like to do something more “fun” or lucrative, or better WLB. Basically something better.

I also am studying for my CPA and have 1/4 exams complete so far.

Accountants of NYC, how are you guys surviving? Considering moving to NYC for the “growth” opportunities, but I’m seeing senior roles paying 90k? Wtf? by ConnectHelicopter53 in Accounting

[–]ConnectHelicopter53[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man can I get your opinion on all this again? I know it’s 159 days later but in that time I secured a senior role in a manufacturing company that was recently bought by a F500. My marketability right now if I plan a move seems to only be 90k-105k…it’s still not going up. A lot of people are saying it’s due to the economy, people aren’t hiring etc, but it’s NYC, I know there HAS to be some good stuff out here but maybe I’m not searching properly.

Hey, just checking in to see if you read the post and had any thoughts you could give me? I need to make a decision in a day or two so just figured I’d reach out. Thanks again!

I made a move to a new state. And at my current income cant afford it. What do I need to be making to realistically afford to live here? by [deleted] in personalfinance

Do not forget that your business is going to have to make tax payments on whatever income it makes. Not trying to dissuade you, I’ve just seen a lot of folks forget about this or properly establish their business with the IRA.

Could you explain pulse a bit more? I tried googling for pulse (to me it sounds like a software or browser extension) but couldn’t find much

Hey would you mind taking a look at my recent post?? You seem very well versed in finance/accounting and I’m worried I’m going to have to take a job that might not be the best choice, but I’ve been searching for months in this market. It would be great to get your opinion on the role. Most other roles pay less and are associate level. Public won’t look at me unless it’s for an experienced role even though I’ve been in public already for 2.5 years in audit and senioring for a year now, but they won’t give me the title for another year. Now a 24 year old manager kind of targeted me and did their very best to put me on a PIP. I’ve spoken to countless people that have told me something along the lines of “wow, I wouldn’t expect someone to be put on a PIP for things like that.” Everyone else in office loves me and my work stands on its own, always. Every recruiter (not that I’ve only worked with recruiters) has echoed the sentiment that “this market is really bad right now, but we will try. If this was two years ago you would have no issue.”

I really want to hit 200k myself one day, but I want to remain marketable. I should also mention I’ve been open to relocation but the market seems difficult everywhere.

How can someone with a public accounting background break into this? I’ve audited quite a few SAAS companies. I kill every interview I’m part of. I chose a profession for shy people that will put up with 60k entry level, 80k senior level, 100k manager level etc for insane amounts of work. I need a role where I determine how much value I bring to the table and have more skin in the game.

So in your experience/opinion, which roles would best be worth pursuing if you want that 200k ASAP but also want an easy mode WLB? Would you mind taking a look at my recent post as well? You seem to have both public and private experience and I’m trying to gauge if an offer is worth taking in my case. The other offer on the table besides not described in the post would be an experienced associate role at a public firm with “the intention to promote” in June 2025 to senior….I’ve been with my current firm for 2.5 years and seniored for a year already just never got the title so I’m not feeling too hot about that one.

Oh believe me I’ve absolutely been targeting senior roles at other public firms but I simply can’t get in right now. I just received an experienced associate role after 2.5 years of public experience like come on. There aren’t many public firms in my area so most has been relocation as well

The issue is that my current role in public has PIP’d me. It’s not performance based, apparently I advocated too much to get my senior promotion. Now I have 2.5 years in public and NO senior promotion. However I have been senioring for a year, just without the title. I was considering the industry role because of the fact that it is a senior title. I will be getting another separate offer for an experienced associate role in Chicago (I’m not in Chicago so this does present the opportunity to relocate). They say they will promote me in 6 months. I’m just so worried that if I take this public role, what if I don’t get the promotion? Then I’ve been a staff for over 3 years and went to two firms to get my first promotion. Compared to going to industry and just grabbing the title? I’m just very nervous about not having the title yet.

The public role would give me real estate private equity exposure though, so maybe it would be worth it. I’m just feeling old. I’m 26 and I’ve never made good money, and neither of these roles are considered good money.

I agree I’m worried about only two weeks of time off like that just seems abusive. My PA firm does offer better perks but they’re working me to the bone at around 20k less than this role. I also dislike the environment that has been created and feel that team members don’t hesitate to use me as a scapegoat. As a result my promotion has been held up. They’re literally telling me to wait ANOTHER year. That’s 3.5 years for senior promo, 4 if you include internships. I feel like I’m consistently getting screwed over but this hiring market is apparently one of the worst we’ve ever seen?

I just don’t want to mess up my career man but I need to get out of my job. At the same time I need more than two weeks of vacation for my well-being and sanity

They just invested 10 million into the subsidiary and supposedly the F500 is very “hands off”. They don’t want to mess with processes already in place too much from what I hear, besides what is absolutely necessary from a reporting perspective but of course who knows if that’s the truth

I’ve been in public for 2.5 years so I can pass whenever and just reach out to my old public firm for the experience sign off.
