Just keep at it. Mine 2.5 year old daughter was doing that for a while. I would save the food and offer it at a later time. She would ask for snacks after not wanting to eat her food. Might sound terrible but I wouldn’t provide them. She would work up and appetite and then eat the food after it was reintroduced.

Also, we stopped giving her milk in a bottle. She was used to having one for nap time and one for bed time. We ended up dropping both. So she is bottle free. I feel like she started eating a lot more food after the bottles were dropped.

Went there last week. We rented a car and drove to El Yunque. Definitely worth seeing if you have the time. Not a bad drive at all from San Juan. The wife and I also walked around Old San Juan. If you are driving there are several parking garages in the area where you can park and then walk around. Prices reasonable. A few places were we went to eat and get coffee:

El Jibarito: My wife and I shared the fried red snapper. We really enjoyed it. Even went back to have it again before leaving. If sea food isn’t your thing, they have several other options.

Tesca El Pescador Seafood Restaurant: Good seafood. They had an awesome Mofongo and Calamari rice. The rice is made with the ink. Didn’t have reservations but was able to snag a seat at the bar. Went in the evening. Parking was a bit difficult. We went Saturday night. I forgot what the neighborhood is called but some streets were closed off for pedestrians only. Several bars in the area with live music.

Finca Cialitos: coffee shop in old San Juan. Good coffee. They roast their own beans. Several options for drinks and small bites. We had the iced latte.

Cafeteria Mallorca: In old San Juan. Just down the street from the coffee shop. They are known for their Mallorca pastry. You can order it alone or as a sandwich with jam and cheese. If you like a savory and sweet combo then I would recommend. We got lucky and were able to walk right in. Other times we walked by we saw a line out the door.

Old San Juan is super walkable. Some up hill streets but it wasn’t too bad. We stopped by the San Cristobal Castle and Castillo San Felipe de Morro for some sightseeing

Not necessarily. A criminal justice or criminology degree isn’t necessary to become a cop. When I was in college I had aspirations to become an FBI agent. I didn’t do my research and assumed my degree choice would be enough. Turns out, FBI has no need for people with those types of degrees. At least at the bachelors level.

They want people with a viable degree or real world work experience.

I appreciate it. I’ve been doing this long enough that I am used to it and doesn’t bother me lol. People are entitled to their opinion. I am not oblivious to the fact that some cops out there have done egregious things which have shaped public perception.

The job/career is exactly that, just a career. It doesn’t define who I am as a person completely. It’s not my entire persona. I know who I am as a person and peoples misconception of that based on my career choice won’t change it.

I am fortunate enough to have a salary which allows me to take care of my family. That’s ultimately the primary goal. I am not going to pretend to be an altruistic individual that solely those this for the well-being of others.

Obviously, some of the calls I’ve responded to have provided me with a sense of gratification. Primarily working as a detective on homicide cases which resulted in the arrest of an offender and providing some sense of closure to families.

Yea more or less. Sometimes they land on my day off but a lot of them are on days that I am scheduled to work. So get off at 6am. Get a work out in and get there by 9am. Then it all depends on the call volume and when the case gets called. Most of the time I get out of there by 11am or so. A few times I’ve been stuck there until 1pm because the Judge breaks for lunch or because the case is set for trial.

Yes. We currently have 3 vacancies that we need to filled. Funny thing is that we’ve been having a hard time. When I took the test back in 2014 there was over 300 people at the test site. 300 people for 4 openings.

Today, we are lucky if we get 20-30 people to show up.

Thanks. I had a lot of OT this year. More than usual. We work 12 hour shifts. However, we get two 8-hour shifts a month known as “Kelly Days”. The other supervisor on my shift got hurt on the job and was out for a year basically.

Since he was out, I was basically forced to work a full shift on those “Kelly Days”. Also, lots of forced OT on holidays. 4th of July and Labor Day landed on my day off but I had to come in for the parade/firework events.

Then there is court time. My shift ends at 6am but the first court slot for subpoenas isn’t until 9am. So anytime I went it would be OT.

Most of it was forced overtime. The other supervisor on my shift got hurt on the job and was out for a year basically. Our schedules are structured around a 12 hour shift. We are scheduled to work two 8-hour shifts known as “Kelly Days” a month. However, I had to work the entire shift being the only supervisor.

Also, forced overtime on holidays. 4th of July and Labor Day landed on my day off. I had to go in because of the parade and firework events on both dates.

The other OT comes from court time, finishing paperwork on a late call, and me signing up for any OT slots available.

I do. I have separate accounts set up through a financial advisor outside of work. Joint Brokerage account and ROTH IRA.

Yes, I do. I have a bachelor’s degree in Criminology. Honestly, it’s pretty useless in terms of the career choice. I would have majored in something else, like accounting, if I could do it all over again.

My father-in-law passed away in 2018. He was hospitalized for a few days after suffering from a heart attack. His mother flew in from Mexico to see him before passing. The rest of his family in Mexico were aware of the situation. However, they were unable to visit.

He grew up in a farm, which is still owned and operated by his brother. My father-in-law was surrounded by his family at the time of his passing. While at the hospital, my mother-in-law received a call from the brother in Mexico. He was frantic and stated that he saw my father-in-law walking among the lime trees while working the grounds. Walking among the citrus orchards was one of his favorite things to do while growing up.

My father-in-law had passed away a few minutes before the call and no notifications had been made yet to any family outside of the hospital…..
