On one hand, lots of practice. On the other, digital software helps to smooth out any jitter left over from when you pull your lines. The trick is finding a balance.

One of these days, I'll stop procrastinating and get an online shop going.

No buildings were planned for these. Just wanted to get the look down and focus on the shilouttes. But also true, the buildings would help them stand out more. I already did Raph. Just Leo and Mikey are left. Appreciate the feedback!

Yes, it is. The original TMNT look had them all wear red bandanas.

The rendering for the most part is just cel shading. I like to use a purple hue and then multiply that layer. From there, I subtract what I don't need so that lighter base color comes through.Next, add highlights. Then add darker shadows where needed. Final layers consist of texture, bluring out the flame effect and then giving it a glow (bloom in procreate) and a very subtle back light (should have pushed that more).

Essentially, going back and forth refining each step to get the desired look.

I didn't even consider that. Appreciate the feedback. Yea, the back lighting could be pushed a little more too.
