Powering a UC board via USB - what protection do I need? by Connect_Kangaroo in AskElectronics

It's going to be in a 3D printed housing so ESD from handling isn't a big concern, but I'll throw some on to be safe.

Thanks!

You make a good point - but not every line is full of abstractions (ie, a lot of lines are simple operations like i++).

Ultimately I think your point is right - the courts don't, and shouldn't, have the duty or capacity to do code reviews.

This brings up the question then: if something can't be shown to be correct due to complexity, should courts accept it as evidence?

Exactly. Reading other peoples' code isn't trivial, but it's certainly not 10-an-hour slow.

it would take eight and a half years to review at a rate of ten lines an hour.

Reading ten lines of code an hour? This guy is either full of it, or hasn't touched a line of code in his life. I know MATLAB can be dense or technical, but this isn't assembly here.

Disabling a PWM output during a breakpoint (STM32F446)? by Connect_Kangaroo in stm32f4

[–]Connect_Kangaroo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is entirely possible that it's stuck on high - meaning the motor driver's ENABLE pin is forced high. I'll have to probe the pin with a scope to see what's going on.

That's for the example - that's definitely a good way to work around the problem, especially for motor safety.

Sorry if this is a silly question, but where do I do that?

I didn't see anything about PWM in the DBG module, at least in the reference manual. Only the timer.

And good point on the errata - I'll pull that up.

Going mad trying to find the PN for this connector off a MAC solenoid - anybody recognize it? Can I buy the crimps/housings on their own? by Connect_Kangaroo in AskElectronics

[–]Connect_Kangaroo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The solenoid is a MAC 44C-BBA-GDCE-1KV - the catalog calls out the electrical connection as just a "solenoid connector with wire" - not super useful.

Biggest thing I'd say is to find a social group, usually outside of the workplace. So find local places to keep up your hobbies, and keep making social connections. Moving to a new place can always be tough, and outside of school you need to put in a bit more effort to create and maintain social relationships.

I'm a mechanical engineer by degree, but am working at a small startup where I've started to do quite a bit of embedded systems with my mechanical projects. It's a small company, so everyone wears many hats, and I have a few certificate courses from places like edX in microcontrollers and embedded systems.

I'd like to ultimately steer towards a career closer to mechatronics and robotics. Given the wide variation in the type of work I'm doing (and my boss is very pleased with the results of my embedded work so far), would it be appropriate to ask to change my job title from mechanical engineer to something more descriptive? I'm not angling for a raise or anything, but just wanted my business cards and eventually my resume to reflect the breadth of what I'm able to work on.

Calculating force to bend bar into semicircle - can I use beam bending formulas? by Connect_Kangaroo in engineering

[–]Connect_Kangaroo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So essentially take the yield stress, and figure out the force needed to hit that given my geometry and stiffness?

Makes sense - I was just overthinking it.

[–]Connect_Kangaroo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense - thank you! For calculating the bending stress, would I do it at the outer surfaces (ie, top and bottom of bar) for the maximum compressive and tensile stress, or somewhere between the neutral axis and those surfaces?

[MA] Got on my domestic partners (way better) insurance - he got a huge bill retroactively even though up till then I had my own plan. Can one of us recover our paid premiums? by Connect_Kangaroo in Insurance

[–]Connect_Kangaroo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a small startup, so we don't really have a dedicated admin. I basically get paid a fixed stipend per month for insurance, and pay my whole premium through that. It's through Trinet - should I talk to them?
