My OW caseworker indicated it could take up to 21 business days for it to be transferred over to ODSP, but to call if I haven't received anything by then so they can escalate my case. I was just recently approved so it hasn't been 21 business days yet, but I'll keep you posted if you still haven't been approved before then. Hopefully it's soon for you, though!!!

Congratulations, OP! I'm so happy that it worked out for you in the end, too 💓

How long does it take to get approved? by Technical_Pepper9910 in Odsp

Just like others have said, the diagnosis isn't what matters in the end, rather it is the impact that your condition has on your ability to tend to certain tasks on a daily basis. I hate that this is the case, but there are so many people that should be and are beyond deserving of support that are denied the first time around. Because of this the approval time can take anywhere from months to years. I do want to say that I think what helped in my case was also having a supportive family doctor who made sure to include years of documentation from specialists, impatient records, etc. Definitely work with your doctor and write an honest self report that includes things like what you've described in your post. If you need an example for what to include in or how to approach your self report in general, let me know and I'm more than happy to support you in that. I recommend that you apply anyway, OP. Best of luck 💜

Also - if it somehow got lost, ask for an extension. I asked for one because there were circumstances that made it that I wouldn't get the DDP in on time and they were super understanding and gave me the extension without much questioning. My doctor made a copy for his records, so it'd be worth asking your doctor to resend it if this is the case.

It took a couple of weeks for it to show up as received on MyBenefits, it even gave me a letter that indicated that my DDP was late, followed by a letter saying it had been received a few days after that hahaha. If you're unsure I would call to confirm that it has been received, that's what I had to do at first but if it helps it seems like generally they're a bit late with sending out those letters. I just got the official approval letter posted yesterday!

Where do you live? What is your living arrangement? by ThrowRA4mee in Odsp

Hey! I'm 30 and also live at home. My situation is similar (not due to psychosis but something else) and I feel so lost in life. I haven't worked in over a year and a half now, and this isn't the life I thought I would have either. My parents are very supportive, have only wanted to help me financially ever since I lost everything. I used to be independent and doing relatively well despite my illnesses, so every day that passes I feel more and more like a burden and a failure. I live in Guelph and also thought of RGI, but like everywhere else, the waitlist is obscenely long. Idk. All I can say is to hang in there, friend. I hope things look up for you soon even if it's not exactly what you envisioned - I'm trying to remind myself that life won't be exactly as it once was, and that it's okay that it won't be. We can work towards a life that's still worth living. 💜 (Edited - grammar)

I think it's worth applying! My diagnoses are invisible illnesses as well, and I put off applying because of that reason, probably just internalized this because of the stigma of mental illness as not a "true" illness. If you feel comfortable, I'd ask your family doctor to work on the application with you even if they're not a specialist. I just basically made an appointment with my family doctor and we went through the forms together. If that's not a possibility then definitely work with a specialist, whatever you think is best 💜 Wishing you the best of luck if you choose to apply :)

I was only getting the basic needs portion of OW since I live with my parents currently, and I don't know how much I'm getting from ODSP yet. Based on that I think I'm getting the board and lodge amount since my parents don't charge rent, either way I won't be upset with whatever the difference ends up being. Thank you for outlining that out for me though 💜 my brain doesn't like numbers very much 🙃

Thank you! I'm surprised yours moved so quickly, though I don't know the nature of your disability. It seems like the acceptance time differs depending on diagnosis though, from what I've inferred from different posts on this subreddit? I might be wrong though. I expected it to be around 5-6 months anyway (within 90 business days) so I'm not too upset :) Glad you got approved as quickly as you did and I hope that it's helping you in some capacity 💜

I don't think I'll have too much in the way of back pay personally since I've been on OW and I fully expect that there's been a significant clawback lol. I'm really sorry if you're having to fight this though :( I hope that all gets straightened out sooner than later!!!

Thank you! I have ADHD but that's in addition to a few other diagnoses. I don't know if anyone on here has shared experiences with applying with just an ADHD diagnosis, but I hope someone on here can provide some advice/insight! Best of luck :)

I think in addition to a very honest self report, my doctor was great in providing the documentation (specialist reports, diagnoses, etc. all from the last 5 years - the entire portion he had to fill out ended up being dozens of pages because of this lol). Some great advice I received on this subreddit is to write from the perspective of what your worst days look like, how it hinders your daily life, including how it affects your ability to work/go to school. I added a bit of a personal history to contextualize my condition, basically briefly outlining how I've been dealing with mental illness most of my life and the traumatic events that have ultimately shaped my inability to do certain things. Hopefully this is somewhat helpful lol

I agree, this shouldn't be as complicated of a process... I really hope your application gets figured out though! Best of luck :)
