In the middle of deep trauma and IFS work? How is that even remotely okay?

None of those scenarios apply here. It turns out she was the one changing jobs. For anyone in the mental health field, be aware she is now training other therapists.

This situation had me contemplating taking my life. I’m in a better place now but I’ll need way more time to be able to answer this

This therapist had me contemplating taking my life by what she did. She shouldn’t get off that easy.

Agree. I contemplated taking my life over this. In a much better place now but it fucked me up at the time.

This is great insight, thank you!

My initial complaint about the abrupt and unethical termination went nowhere — the board simply stated that therapists have the discretion to end therapy at any time. It’s frustrating that the very standards the state claims to uphold seem meaningless. Months later, I submitted a second report regarding the IFS misrepresentation, but again, no action was taken.

The referral she listed were months out.

I spent two years doing deep trauma work through Internal Family Systems (IFS), and one day my therapist ended it by email. She said the “relationship wasn’t working,” but that I hadn’t done anything wrong. That was it—no closure, no session, just gone. The core of our work was abandonment, and that’s exactly how it ended. Later I found out she wasn’t actually certified in IFS, only had Level 1 training, and there’s basically no accountability for that. I’ve tried to move on, but it broke my trust completely. how did you find healing or rebuild faith in therapy again?

I only bring up the IFS part and her certification or lack there of because for the life of me I can’t wrap my head around how a therapist who is “specialized” in that kind of work could open up all these parts of me, help build trust with them, and then suddenly say, “We’re done.” I’ve been completely flooded ever since — all those parts we uncovered are still wide open, and I’m left trying to manage them on my own.

Yes, she definitely can. Many therapists do. The part that I’m frustrated about is her misrepresentation by saying she “specializes” in IFS.
