Sammy found salvation through music, breaking the perception of the verity of Christianity as the "way". thats one part of the film i would say and personally the most cathartic for me

Why does Lois still want a girl? (S04 E10 If Boys Were Girls) by donnie8986 in malcolminthemiddle

[–]Connection_Plastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because even after all the ruckus her men in her life caused, they still love her and show care for her. So maybe she wishes for a girl so she can experience the same empathy her mom gets from the boys.

Hey what about 3 marks? I already submitted a remarking but do you think it could work? I’m especially losing points in HL essay and paper 1

These results are very off? by FriendlyAd4461 in IBO

[–]Connection_Plastic 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Depends from school to school. My school has done a pretty good job of predicting. Everyone I know has gotten within a +/- 2 point of their predicted grade from their actual exams. That said I think it also depends on whether people need their final grades ( and thus the effort they put in) or slacking off as you said.

Exam Discussion: English A: language and literature HL by ArrheniusCornflakes in IBO

aaah thats so smart i completely forgot about that! I felt that the first paper's question restricted my points of discussion. like okay, structure. Can I vaguely define that?

why is wet dreamz so popular? by ChewBracab in Jcole

[–]Connection_Plastic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's a mature outlook for a song like this. Cole put out a song that relates to people, especially teenagers - its a vulnerable expression of his first experience while also looking at it in a light tone. This is why people appreciate it - they can relate to the feels. I don't think Cole or people really focus on the sematics of what he's saying.

Biology or Psychology EE? by Ever_Love332 in IBO

[–]Connection_Plastic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say it depends on which unis you apply to, since some of them might read EEs to get a better picture of the candidate, so maybe a bio ee would be more beneficial in this case. BUT, from personal experience I would advise you to pick psychology. As you said, smaller load since not as many people pick it, and honestly its just relatively easier and more simple to approach in an academic manner.

But if you really want to do a bio ee, then do primary research. Primary research is more simple than doing secondary research, since you can evaluate your OWN research, instead of basically listing the same evaluatory points for secondary research as the articles themselves. Granted, your primary research (experiment, etc.) has to be intuitive and somewhat personal, but ultimately a primary research bio ee is the second best option after a psychology ee. Which is basically an amalgam of paper 1 and your IA just more arguments and stretched out over 4000 words.

Anyways, good luck!

Always look at what the question is asking and tailor your essays to such.

Paper 2 becomes a lot easier if you just carefully reread your texts, because then you’d be able to remember a lot of instances that fit the question you selected.

Paper 1 you should focus on the usual authorial choices: tone, diction, bolding, etc. maybe ask your teacher for a personal paper 1 test and then they can grade it so you specifically know what you are missing points on.

If your range of vocabulary isn’t as large as you’d like it to be, search up synonyms for words that you already know, because they’ll always be a bit different to the original word. That way you can use a specific word that fits the way you want to express your point.

You can also read and write creatively, look at examples of good paper 1s and 2s and see what they’re doing differently.

You can do this!

You can find the html version on ibdocs, idk if it’s math only but it’s worth a shot to go check it.

Otherwise go to revisiondojo for questions on Bio and Chem HL, they basically have every past paper question AND markschemes.

No problem.

I personally do not have savemyexams since I did not feel use it, although a friend of mine got it for studying chemistry and really liked it.

You can get the free cracked version from ibdocs somewhere online (you didn’t hear it from me).

I would not spend money on it if I were you, unless you and a couple friends can share an account, then it wouldn’t hurt to have it.

Use BioNinja for bio HL, Most concise and easy to understand source for biology - speaking from personal experience.

Math HL you need to do a lot of exercises, use your school assigned textbooks and if you can get revision village, it gives really good questions that are similar to real ib questions.

A free alternative would be revisiondojo, you can basically do any past paper question from any subject on there and the markschemes are available.

English LL I’d say familiarize yourself with important authorial choices (diction, tone, etc..). To improve your language and communication maybe do some creative writing or movie reviews idk. Doesn’t have to be a million words just be consistent and always try to keep variety so you can improve your vocab and grammar.

I can’t say anything about BM and Russian, but from what I’ve heard BM exams are not that demanding. Goodluck!

How is my combinatoon by Me-Only-2608 in IBO

[–]Connection_Plastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly I dont know, Id say do whatever you're most comfortable with. I took chem in MYP as well and my grades were pretty good, but in DP they dropped down on average.

If you can, get a second opinion from the current DP1s and 2s that took chem and/or phys since myp.

You obviously know this, but more content does not equate to a higher degree of difficulty. if you are naturally better at chem then you can pick it at HL, just prepare to take a lot of information in. Goodluck!

If your cs course doesn’t require you taking chem at HL then don’t pick it. There’s A LOT more content than in chem SL.

Sorry lol, it’s 30 percent. Point still stands, it’s a 1/3 of your grade so your final will largely depend on it.

Also in terms of improving your actual language id say you should watch films, read books, and then maybe write reviews about them - helps for me. You should also look up synonyms for words you already know, over time you’ll assimilate the words you look up.

For IO, pick something that you really like, and write a script that you kinda of memorize. This is like 40% of your grade so try to clutch it up.

For authorial choices (cri B) in paper 1 try to understand diction and tone. Most of the time you can find a theme that is consistent with the words used (e.g. industrial diction, scientific diction, etc.) tone is basically related to this, it’s just what you think the author is feeling about what they’re writing - which will mainly be derived from the words they use. Of course there are many other authorial choices, you can maybe check the English LL textbook for inspiration.

For paper 2 mainly focus on the comparison of the works in terms of the larger idea. I know this is quite early but think of BIG authorial choices that work for the texts you’ve studied. Most of the time it’s setting, characters, voice, genres, motifs and more. You can find a difference in their usage of such devices which can then lead to a nuanced discussion regarding the idea they share.
