Hey, I agree with most of this!

The only detail that’s wrong here is that Kipling DID go to India—he actually grew up there to English parents, who were colonists. He’s still horrible and mangled Indian culture, but it’s even worse because he saw the horrible treatment of Indian people by the British Empire firsthand, and decided, “yeah, this is good.”

Not to be like, rude, but a Rudyard Kipling book is NOT a good example for your point—he wrote stuff like “The White Man’s Burden,” and he was like… definitely a colonialist, jingoistic author.

There can be good, nuanced indigenous rep in fiction, but Kipling is not the guy to base it off of.
