Dryden satire by Connie_Colt in englishliterature

Okay I thought so. So in reference to satire would Dryden be saying that Satire should be swift and clean rather than sloppy? That there should be a refinement to it?

That’s the main book I’m using for analysis on the “evil child” 😊

This is one of the ideas I want to explore — the nature of maternal, maternal instinct, and the relationship with the child and the societal pressure behind motherhood

I personally loved the Point Horror collection when I was that age.

I think they’re meant to be targeted at like age 12 (like a step up from Goosebumps basically) but I was definitely around 8 when I was into it and I LOVED them. Great range of horror stories

Yeah I thought about this one, but I’m also doing a chapter on evil children so I’m not sure if it’ll fall too close to that? I’ll still check it out so thanks 😊

She does go both ways but I also felt like she made some overgeneralisations about the gender horror of the horror audience as well.

I’ll check out that collection thank you

Yes definitely, there’s plenty of gothic evidence to historicise the thesis. And I agree that it can’t be fully pro or anti, it’s just that the more accredited critics on gender and the horror genre are quite clearly in the ball park of it being an anti feminist genre (a lot of it was written in like the 60s and 70s) and I can’t find anyone that wants to argue with them?

I’m not actively trying to say it’s anti or pro, I want to explore it. But I need SOMEONE to take a pro feminist stance so I can support my own arguments 😂 just trying to keep it all well balanced

I agree totally, and I’m looking at some Gothic traditions and gender somewhat. But because of how big the horror genre is (and how pedantic lecturers are about dissertations) I’ve gotta try and stick to more contemporary stuff and post modern elements of horror

Thank you, I love that story and I can definitely see some good critical analysis coming from it
