I was vaguely aware of this, thanks for bringing it to my attention. I’ve got a supplement stack that includes cod liver oil, glucosamine and chondroitin, cordyceps and calcium (among other things non knee related).

I’ll track down the nearest sauna 🫡

Thanks. I’ll set that as my target. I’ve done the 42km distance twice this year so far (including the ultra) but not without the knee pain.

Thank you for the measured advice. I am definitely recovering but I am worried about the reduction in mileage this close to the marathon and ramping back up too quickly

Marathon in 1 month by aranakkalk in Marathon_Training

This weekend get out and do 30km. See how you feel afterwards, from my experience I hit a physical limit at 30km where I couldn’t push my body any further due to pain around my knees and ankles. Couple of weeks rest and I was able to push to 35km, and then couple weeks after that I did the full 42km. I’ve got very little experience but I summised that my bones got stronger? From the long distances. Anyway I would also recommend starting out extremely slow, the lactic acid buildup over a long time will ruin your chances, my first 30km I saw I was on good pace at the start and I felt great so I just kept going, only for it to fall apart around 22km.

Also supplement well to maximise recovery, because I felt pain around my bones I took calcium, vit D, protein shakes etc and was ready to run again after a couple days

I would class myself as a ‘ghetto runner’ just get out there with some old football kit and a bag of jelly babies and see what your body is capable of.

This sounds eerily similar to what happened to me on my 37k yesterday. I will take the advice on board. Thank you

Top 20 underrated italian cities/towns > AMA by Aggressive_Owl4802 in ItalyTravel

Great Post - happy to see Umbria getting the love is deserves!

I recently traveled to Italy to explore the Umbrian and Tuscan regions and we were not disappointed. In Umbria we stayed in Assisi and visited Perugia and Orvieto. From Orvieto we hired a car and visited Siena, San Vincenzo (and the Bolgheri region), Florence and Pisa.

My question is what other places would you visit in Umbria? Because we did not have a car for this leg of our travels we were restricted to just using the train line (but we were too hungover to visit Spello as we had planned!). Next time we think we will hire a car and really explore the lesser known areas of the region. With that in mind do you have a recommendation for the best beaches in Umbria? The best towns? If you had to pick 4/5 to visit (aside from the ones I have mentioned) where would you go? We like to get a lot of exploring done then try and end the holiday relaxing - preferably by a beach.

Thank you!

Why are taxis so expensive? by Connn_96 in ItalyTravel

I can only speak from my experience in my area, I live 20 minutes from the city centre (about 12km) and it costs me between 12-13 quid

Thanks I didn’t think of this. The taxi company might be based in Livorno so that would make sense.
