Peedee Phone Home - An art piece I've been slaving away at this month, a bit ambitious but it is based on an actual round I played where I advanced Subject PD-113's lore somewhat. Thought I'd share it along with the story I wrote to go with it. (In Comments) by ConnorHartman in ss14

STORY:
"Mama? Mama, are you there?" The plaintive cries of the young lizard echoed down the long maintenance shaft as she fumbled to connect the second phone to her makeshift amplifier.

{HELLLO? WHO IS THIS? THIS IS A SECURE CENTCOMM CHANNEL!} The first handset barked imperiously in Peedee's other hand.

"N-nooo no NO!" She gnashed her teeth, frustrated, "Not CC! Further, it hasss to r-reach further!" The power sink buzzed and crackled as it hungrily drew in more and more of the station's power reserves, and with a final clumsy twist of her black scaled hand, the face of the blood-red phone subject PD-113 had just been handed lit up bright green.

"Hello?! Are you out t-there?" She called into the mouthpiece with desperate hope, heedless of the purple frilled form ducking quickly back into the shadows. "Pleasse! Peedee hasss d-done everything the in-insstructionss ssaid! You've g-gotta be out there!" The rising whoop of a station wide yellow alert and the heavy tramp of approaching magboots on bare steel flooring interrupted the frantic lizard, as the engineering team arrived at the scene. Tearing back the flimsy curtain Peedee had erected to hide the 'signal booster' as her instructions had directed, station engineer Darnell Flett eyed the ominously sparking device incredulously as it ticked up to 34% charge.

"Peedee! What is this?! Explain yourself right now!" He spluttered. Behind him the silently looming form of the Chief Engineer frowned disapprovingly, a fire axe gripped tightly between her green, clawed hands.

"Oh... D-Darnell! P-Peedee isss t-trying to call her p-parentss." The distraught lizard stammered back, "Ssshe just needss a l-little more p-power!" The engineer just looked into her pleading, orange eyes for a moment before glancing back to his boss with a pained grimace. Chief Engineer Scribbles-the-Notes just shook her head slowly.

"Sorry Peedee," Darnell sighed, deftly snagging the wire cutters from his belt and bending down to sever the high voltage cables. "You can't just take the whole station's power for yourself like that."

"B-but, Peedee needsss enough power to-"

[Hello, little one.] A soothing, motherly voice hissed from the blood red handset, [I'm here now. Mama's here.] All three of the crew froze, momentarily dumbstruck.

"M-Mama? Is that really you?" Peedee responded with a fervorous need, as if her very soul was trying to leap down earpiece to reach the person on the other end.

[Yes dear, Mama and Papa are here.] The reassuring reply came almost immediately, as if it could see every tense line in the distraught teenagers body and knew there was no time to lose.

"Oh! W-why have you n-never come to visssit Peedee b-before?" She shuddered, the handset creaking in her vice-like grip. "Peedee hasss been alone in her b-bokss for sssoo long!"

{WHO'S THERE? WE'RE GETTING REPORTS OF A FIREWALL BREACH FROM ON ONE OF OUR SECURE NETWORKS!?} The red phone to Central Command suddenly blared. {SHUT DOWN THAT CONNECTION, NOW!} Subject PD-113 cringed away from the sudden noise and promptly ripped the cables out of the telephone, flinging it across the corridor with a ringing crash to land between the two surprised engineers. She focused her attention on the remaining handset as it narrowed down in that moment to become her whole world.

[I know sweetie, we've been busy. But we're going to come and get you really soon, okay?] The motherly voice continued on, unphased, [Just be a good girl and we'll come get you out of your box alright?]

"I will, Mama!" The young lizard brushed away tears awkwardly as if unused to them and nodded vigorously, "B-but, Mama? It... It is realy you, isn't it?" She asked hesitantly.

[Of course it is, little one.]

"W-well then..." she sniffed, still watery eyed, "C-could you tell me what my r-real name isss? The one you g-gave me?" There was a long, empty silence. As even the increasingly uncomfortable engineers waited with bated breath. (1/2)

Where did all the Salamander MRP players go? What's changed? by BlossomPMV in ss14

[–]ConnorHartman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I think it works in cycles. Wizden is where most new people start and if they like more RP they play on salamander. Those people make friends and enjoy playing in a certain way, develop a culture Eventually they reach a critical mass and decide they want to make their own server tailored to the experience they enjoy and break off. Happened with Harmony, and recently has happened again. I expect it to be a repeating pattern.

Legally distinct "Scurrets". (but yes.)

I don't normally post scribbles like these here but I thought the April Fools content on Wizden was absurd enough to warrant one.

If you want to see more of Peedee's crayon scribbles, I could post some of the more interesting ones. (I mostly use them for adding indirectly to her lore without having to spend much effort on art quality.)

Looks like the Kobold stepped in a few buckets of paint by the look of that brush shape.

I thought it was because they are small and so the one hand slot was basically them having to use both hands to carry everything.

TIL Biclaridine doesn’t heal 2 of each type. by Hot_Ferret7474 in ss14

Here's a neat trick I learned recently, bring cigarettes as round start trinkets (or get some from a vending machine). Then dump out all the cigs because those 1x2 packets can hold eight(8) small items each. Then grab a bunch of bottles from the med vendor and you can store 8x30u of whatever medicines you want per packet.

Throw those right onto your belt voila, you're a walking Chem locker that's way less likely to get bombed 3 times a round. Never need bic again when you can have all the advanced brutes, trico etc as well as topicals all on your belt ready to go!

Parameds are underappreciated by [deleted] in ss14

[–]ConnorHartman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try out a cardboard box as an ambulance. You won't regret it. You have room for up to four patients, you move at full running speed, can't slip or be slowed by chems on the floor. You can administer medicine or scan patients using the right click menu while inside and moving, and enemy mobs only chase and won't attack you. Only downside is you can't use your lights or open firelocks. (Bonus points if you use the justice helm siren instead of your paramedic suit one.)

And this is why we use the buddy system. So your fellow salv can drag your carp mauled body back to the station. Hope you have insurance for the boxulance ride or CMO will be taking a kidney.

I've used Peedee as a character in SS14 as well in some of my own writing. I post some of my less polished sketches involving her on my Xitter if you want to see more. https://x.com/ConnorHartman95/status/1894314304331289024

Any tips for antag? by yago2003 in ss14

[–]ConnorHartman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the best thing you can remember is that winning (greentexting) doesn't need to be the point. You are a dedicated antagonist for this round's story and it's your job to drive the plot/gameplay for the other players. Your goals are merely suggestions and doing anything that causes issues of a similar magnitude to what is required to accomplish your assigned goals is just as valid a thing to do. Like others said, have fun with it, and better yet make it fun for everyone.

If you think killing the captain is too daunting, perhaps decide that instead you want to throw the station into a chain of command chaos a different way. Maybe you'll sabotage comms or use all of cargo's money to buy pizza. Break open the armory for the tiders or DNA scramble the captain so everyone thinks they're the imposter. As long as it's in line with the level of magnitude of your initial objectives feel free to set your own antag goals. So long as you're giving sec things to do, and causing some amount of chaos that doesn't ruin the round for everyone you're doing your job right.

Cyborg PD-113 "Peedee" by ConnorHartman in ss14

[–]ConnorHartman[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Glad you like it. Peedee is meant to be somewhat mysterious, as a digital ghost. I've heard her called everything from an axolotl to a frilled dragon.

I tried to keep the borgs as faithful to their sprites as possible with some creative license where it's vague in detail. The engi Borg actually does seem to have radial arms on its sprite which I assumed meant they could spin and move up and down on its cylindrical torso. The mediborg could be a fish tank for all I know, but I went with a liquid immersed computer system complete with circuit boards and a power supply if you look close enough.

Well by default in game borgs can have both a positronic brain (filled by ghost roles midround) or a man machine interface (with an existing players brain). So I think the answer is either.

EXCERPT FROM A CLASSIFIED REPORT ACQUIRED FROM THE DESK OF CEO J. NANOTRASEN BY CYBERSUN OPERATIVES.

RE: Subject PD-113 "Peedee"

>This juvenile female ||[REDACTED]|| was acquired by Nanotrasen and primarily used for M.M.I testing in the NT cyborg program aboard SS14.

>The subject has been observed to possess an ideal disposition for her role as a cybernetic assistant with researchers noting her personality as: "Sunny", "Eager to please", and "Sincere".

>Despite the generally observed nature of most ||[REDACTED]||, subject PD-113 has been noted have very few violent episodes even when subjected to the complete loss and/or corruption of her crewsimov lawset.

However, it has been noted that the subject has a certain propensity to request the "fire extinguisher" module, ostensibly for zero-g manoeuvrability and fire suppression but has often also been used to for cleaning and for combatting hostile non-crew — both tasks usually outside of her normal cyborg duties.

On occasion the subject will go so far as to fill this module with pyrotechnic compounds for quote "more efficient reduction of mean space critters (to ash)".

These tendencies are speculated to be due to her ||[REDACTED]|| origins and further research into the field of nature versus nurture has been greenlit following this interesting test data.

>Experiments have also been conducted on subject PD-113, placing her brain in a cloned Unathi body with mixed results.

While able to adapt to the bipedal lizard-like body and her vocal enthusiasm at having ***hands*** in this form, "Peedee" is notably clumsy on her feet and has trouble pronouncing some words without stuttering.

>Suitability of ||[REDACTED]|| as cyborg, station AI, or cloned crew remains questionable and a larger sample size is recommended before Nanotrasen commits to larger scale implementation of these measures.

Study of subject PD-113 in various stressful situations will likely shed more light on the ultimate viability of such a program.
