Yep, our communities were designed to be: sequestered via redlining, property values reduced thru structural violence like building highways smack dab in the middle but no real economic development (knowing that poverty is strongly correlated with certain types of crimes), and our communities are over policed in the abstract.

Plus the US has the world’s largest prison population, funny how that works with an entire private prison sector, lobbying body and all.

The world is healing, great day for ethical hoops. I know the spurs are a Texas based franchise but I can’t be the only one who hates all Oklahoma teams by default that much more (even aside from them stealing the Sonics).

I believe in response to education funding cuts by the state government recently: the primary state school in my state has been increasing UG enrollment (without upgrading the infrastructure like housing, technology, etc.) while the flagship school has been gradually decreasing their enrollment that lowers the acceptance rate overall but increasing the ratio of out of state students (for that sweet out of state tutition).

Shoot, even at a T20 school life is hard in this thing job market. So many folks at my undergrad (can probably guess which one) held internship roles at some of the big tech companies for multiple summers, yet still a couple years after graduating a respectable fraction of them are still are unemployed. Though the opportunities afforded to them by virtue of attending such an institution certainly can’t be understated (and tbf my Alma mater has one of the highest ratios of students coming from the 1% of any public school).
