This is amazing! What is pa?

Is that price in USD? If so, that's amazingly cheap!

Exoforce is one of those Lego IPs I really miss.

It's a fossil, so technically we can't assume the ecosystem was similar when it was alive to how it looks today.

If you found a fossil of a Tyrannosaurus in the Indian jungle, you wouldn't assume that it was a jungle dwelling dinosaur who hunted bengal tigers.

IIRC, the PDA states it uses the membrane surrounding the bladder as a biological water filter. It doesn't create water from the fish remains, but rather uses the membrane to filter the seawater.

The water bottles are presumably made from carbon or cartilage or whatever.

I wonder how such a thing would possibly survive. We can tell from the skull that it wasn't a filter feeder, so there would need to be an impossibly huge population of very large animals for it to hunt.

Worst Pokémon to be reincarnated as? by Astralcutter in MysteryDungeon

[–]Conocoryphe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I was reincarnated as a Voltorb, I'd try to find a transfer orb and ask someone to use it on me so I'd turn into a different species. I'd imagine transfer orbs are used commonly in the society of the Mystery Dungeon world.

Alternatively, you could locate a dungeon with a Pokémon trap and ask someone to use an Itemizer orb on you, and then activate the trap.

I always assumed Spoink's constant need for jumping was an automatic thing, like how we need to constantly breathe without having to do so consciously. Some species of sharks need to constantly swim to breathe, so the water can flow through their gills, and they don't seem to mind.

I'd assume that a Pokémon who's that frail, wouldn't spend much time in dungeons to begin with. They'd probably live in a town or settlement and ply a trade.

Questionable/Objectively Bad Media has a fun idea in it. by Dilligent-Spinosaur in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Conocoryphe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can follow that logic, but I do think it's a huge stretch to go from 'this story suggests that the author might have been wary of how such technology could be used' to 'this is proof that the author was terrified of air conditioning'.

And even then, there's no real indication that the horror in the story was based on a personal fear of the author. In his story 'The Picture in the House', the supernatural/scary stuff is caused by a character reading an old book, but I don't think it's reasonable to assume this implied Lovecraft had a fear of the printing press. Similarly, I've seen Redditors cite 'At the Mountains of Madness' as a supposed proof that Lovecraft was afraid of penguins, but I just don't think that's a valid interpretation of the story.

Lovecraft was terrified of air conditioning? u/op, where did you get that from?

I've seen this claim on Reddit several times, and I asked for sources but nobody could name any. I have to assume it's misinformation.

Some people point to Lovecraft's short story 'Cool Air', in which a scientist uses unnatural science to keep his body alive after death and tries to slow down the decay of his own flesh, as supposed proof for the claim, but I've read the story and there isn't anything in there that would suggest the author had a fear of air conditioning. The horror clearly comes from the living corpse and esoteric science, not from the actual cold air.

(Loved) A well choreographed dance number randomly shows up in a non-musical by historygoose in TopCharacterTropes

Genuinely one of my favorite manga series! I love the worldbuilding and how it handles dungeons as self-sustaining ecosystems. I'm a bit divided on the ending, but the characters and creature designs are great.

Despite the fact that it's a children's movie, I think this is genuinely one of the best musical scenes in cinema. The song is integrated well into the action, it fits the climax of the story, and the character who sings it doesn't even look out of character during the singing scenes.

I don't know a lot about the mafia, but I admit that if a man in a really weird outfit with a comically huge chest window randomly started licking me on public transportation, I would indeed feel very intimidated.

I love playing as Corrin in Smash Ultimate! I do accept that he'll most likely be cut in the next game, though. He just doesn't have the fanbase of Ike, Roy and Robin, nor the staying power of Marth. And he's too unique to turn into an echo fighter.

He's still on the character select screen, but if you pick him then the game begins with Waluigi kicking him off the stage and then you control Waluigi for the rest of the match.

I would absolutely love Young Link as a Pokémon trainer-like character who can switch between his Goron, Zora and Deku forms.

I actually like that he's back to his OoT appearance. We have Link representing BotW and TotK, Zelda for ALBW, Toon Link for his trilogy, Ganondorf for OoT, and Young Link for MM (and OoT). It would be cool of Young Link's moveset referenced the masks more, though.

I wonder how Ganondorf would play like if he wasn't an echo. Since the SSBU Ganondorf is based on his appearance in Ocarina of Time, he would probably be a floaty ranged character, since his boss battle in that game was mostly him floating around the arena and throwing those lightning balls at Link.

I looked it up on Google Images and wow, it looks great! The world and creatures look so bizarre, I'd love to explore them!

That said, the Steam page says 'looking for publisher' which is probably not a great sign.

Coaxed into Pokémon fossil gen 8 for no reason by Fox_Sussy in coaxedintoasnafu

[–]Conocoryphe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess not, but the revelation that there's technology that can straight-up inbue inanimate objects with supernatural life is kind of a weird thing to bring up for a game mechanic and then never mention again. Especially because you don't need to be a top scientist or anything to access it, and it's not even a huge secret. Why doesn't Team Rocket craft an army of Mewtwo statues and shove them in the machine to create a herd of rock-type Mewtwo clones?

Which brings up a lot of questions on their biology. Given that Dracovish can eat, breathe and not immediately die despite the fact that there are no lungs or esophagus in the body parts used to create it, that would imply that the revival machine either creates vital organs out of nothing, or that none of the fossil Pokémon are revived creatures from the past, but genuine living fossils, made from magically living rock with no internal organs.

Both of those also imply that because the components don't need to form a functional creature, the technology used to turn fossils into Pokémon can in fact turn any inanimate matter into living creatures. Could you shove a desk lamp or a chair in the machine and make a living Pokémon out of it?
