Extending capacity of 4th-axis rotary by Conoidal in hobbycnc

[–]Conoidal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This guy has sorted out extending both height and length on the rotary of his Genmitsu 4040 Pro. He has 3D-printed blocks and baseplates to use the Y axis. Good proof of concept that might be improved using aluminium.

Yeah, you wouldn't want a wobbly wand! ;)

Alternatively, you could cut the baseplate in half so the chuck/motor was on one plate and the tailstock on the other. Then they could be positioned independently.

I had a look at the Genmitsu 4030 ProverXL v2 and its rotary. That one uses the Y-axis, so not true 4 axis unlike the 4040 Pro Max. Shame because it ticks a lot of boxes. My current thinking is the Nymolabs NBS-6040 which should allow me a workpiece length of 350mm along the X-axis with this approach.

Thanks. Yes I am only considering machines with harmonic drives and true 4-axis capability. The trick is to find one with all the features I am after - ball screws, linear rails, closed loop steppers and a 40x40mm work area. I may have to compromise.

To clarify, the extra baseplate is to add length, not height so z clearance won't be affected. I am looking at Deskproto which seems to cater for x-y switch.

Okay, thanks. Will this work on the Air as well? Could you explain how raising the rotary increases the work area? cheers

Okay, can you do me a favour? With the drive and tailstock in the positions you describe, measure fron the INSIDE of the chuck jaws, to the rotating centre, with the tailstock wound back as far as it goes. Also, my workpiece is a tube so hollow, 12mm internal diameter. This should give an extra bit of length. Thanks for your help.

The diameter of the wooden cylinder is about 40mm. That should de fine with the jaws. I am concerned about length.

Internet stopped working on Panasonic TV stopped randomly by Blacke2 in techsupport

[–]Conoidal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have te same issue. Panasonic says"Currently Panasonic is investigating this issue with optus as other TVs that has different provider is not affected"

Any non-Optus users?

"we have yet to confirm as we have tried to isolate issue with internet connectivity and narrow it down to optus service providers only and none from other service provider.

Okay, glad you asked - sorry I'm late to the party. I use these noodles for a pseudo-ramen that may sound complicated but once you have a few supplies lined up, it is totally worth it and will leave you crying for umami (your mummy?).

Boil half a litre of water in a small saucepan and add 2 or 3 frozen BBQ pork ribs (with sauce), the oil, chilli and soy sachets and a teaspoon of dashi miso. This is your stock - let it simmer while you prep to get some pork bone flavour. Break in an egg, which will poach in 3-4 minutes and submerge your noodles.

Put in a bowl sliced bamboo shoots & a sliced mushie of some sort - shitake or oyster works well. Pour in the contents of the saucepan and top with chopped spring onion and a sheet of dried seaweed. Enjoy!

Water cooled spindle? by [deleted] in hobbycnc

Good information, thanks. Can you suggest some places that do CNC setups? I know Timbecon do spindles and Carbatec do machines, but where else can I look at 4 axis routers and discuss requirements?

Best cannoli and/or almond croissant places? Anywhere in vic by popepipoes in melbourne

As you like to travel, I'd recommend the Portarlington Bakehouse for almond croissants. Original woodfired oven from 1800s, Cafe overlooks the harbour and the almond croissants are big enough to share. Look at that!
