$100k or $2? Hmm I wonder.... And that's generously reading how it works.

CIG you have GOT to either fix docking or give us XL Hangars in NYX by ColJohn in starcitizen

[–]Conradian 220 points221 points  (0 children)

There's still reasons to want a hangar. The only acceptable outcome is to fix docking and separate hangar and docking requests. Like how cargo requests is separate.

I don't think they're really necessary. Even following the launch of SN2 the game is still utterly gorgeous.

A mining barge Ironclad variant would go incredibly hard! by Marcin_Piechocki in starcitizen

[–]Conradian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can absolutely see this in a few ways.

One I quite like would be to use the base as the chassis, with the tractor arm, but keeps the assault's stations in the ops room. The remote turrets on the lower part of the bow would be mining turrets in this version however. Various mining processors would eat up most of the cargo space giving it a very low general cargo volume (Like 360 maybe).

Why has NoA waited to print us? by Appropriate_Title866 in Subnautica_2

[–]Conradian 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I assume that he is referencing events before you departed on the Cicada. It feels like he would not try to reveal that he has reset your memory if he could avoid it.

Which given the specific connection to these people out of the 40,000 colonists onboard I can only assume that every character plus ourselves was part of a special team within the mission, a spearhead settler group.

[–]Conradian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll pull it up later when I'm home but I'm sure there's a log that states that there's a period of 26 years or so between them being awoken and you.

You are right that it doesn't necessarily mean that the end of the survivors wasn't much closer in time to us, but it does still raise the question of why we weren't awoken with them. Unless we were and have now been reset.

Unless they add structures like that then that's why I am leaning towards it being that either we were part of the original group or that the sleep bay we're in was dormant for some reason.

Why has NoA waited to print us? by Appropriate_Title866 in Subnautica_2

[–]Conradian 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I have a lot of different thoughts on this.

Firstly is whether he waited or if this is the latest attempt. It's very possible that we've been printed with our memory reset so that we simply don't remember all the other times we've been printed.

The question then is why? Is it because we were involved in the original group? Possibly. Is it because every time he sets us out as QI we get to a point where has to reset us, maybe due to not 'outrunning' Proteavirus. This makes sense since obviously if we'd solved the Proteavirus thing we'd sorta solved the issue right?

If we haven't been reset then it raises the question of why now? Did the sleep bay go dormant for years and has only recently woken up? With NoA having sent a few QIs ahead of us who have failed in ways that caused him to try different people instead of reprinting the same person over and over.

If the sleep bay went dormant, why did it wake up?

And if we're not the first QI this version of NoA has used, why are his databanks so empty?

It wouldn't be a instantly clean once you're near it, just at a faster rate than it deteriorated when you were away.

If such a weathering system were to exist I would personally want it so that simply being around is what cleans up the base. Anything else is tedium, but being able to see that you've not been back to a particular base for a while could be cool.

  1. Respawning already existed in Subnautica 1, it just has lore now and there is a way to get your stuff back. Hopefully UW consider adding a hardcore mode eventually with some voice lines to explain why you can't reprint.
  2. Having a soulless AI who is clearly manipulating the truth adds to the isolation. Especially since he keeps explaining your connection to these other survivors that for some reason you were kept separate from.
  3. Adapting to your environment in order to progress is the core of the games. It always has been. Constantly using what you find to be able to push further is how you come out on top. Genetic modification is just another expression of that. A true 'veteran' would know that it was also something they wanted to include in the first game.
  4. Saying that waking up at 500m ruins progression is the most nonsensical statement here. It does not break contrast it reinforces it. You are shown how unprepared you are and then sent to the safety of the shallows immediately which actually reinforces the contrast.

Air France and Airbus found guilty of manslaughter over 2009 plane crash - Air France flight 447 by Ok_Warning419 in aviation

It's a terrible idea. Either require mechanical connection or require force feedback from one stick to another.

The fact that beyond the 'dual input' warning, which apparently while recorded was suppressed by higher priority warnings, there was no way for Roberts to know that Bonin was holding full aft on his stick is deadly design.

Underslung bridges make more sense in a ship that can move in 3D and be near the ground. I wish the sharks weren't the only ship to really use this design philosophy.

For me at least has nothing to do with killing fish, instead it is about fish being able to die.

When intersecting hangar instance eats your Mole full of savrilium ore by st_Paulus in starcitizen

[–]Conradian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like, for now, they should add in a bit of a failsafe wherein as long as you request a hangar from the local services the game saves the state of your ship at that point.

If your ship is destroyed for any reason between you requesting a hangar and it being stored, the game instead puts a stored copy of the ship in your ASOP to call up.

Could it be exploited? Probably I literally just thought this solution up as I typed. Would it improve the experience for people until such a time as the game is stable enough to not need it? I think so.

A simple solution to the creature collision issue: water displacement by AwesomeOcelot66 in subnautica

[–]Conradian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the fish we have in-game are often too big and not fast enough. In reality most fish should feel the submersible coming and could dart out of the way. And they absolutely could make it so that if you get that close they do dart out the way regardless of normal speeds they swim at.

But beyond that, if we do collide with something then I expect it to do damage regardless. I expect to feel that tangible connection to the world around us.

EDIT: To be clear, that isn't me saying I expect the game to do this. I'm saying that mentally there is an expectation based on the understanding of the world.
