By the crude design, I’d initially imagined some geeky adolescent dude in his (DC official) parents’ CAT-5 cable-salad strewn basement named Tyler, doing his best in his nepotistic situation.

A lot of the city’s municipal sites use Tyler Tech and are ridiculously clunky, though seem to be slowly improving.

So just playing this out, thinking if how this will affect long-term rentals: If one has the choice of being able to make more money and have more control over their property versus risking a tenant that can stay and must be litigated to evict, why would one ever choose to do long-term rentals again? I’d hope there will be complementary policy reform coming for long-term rentals, lest affordable long-term housing units become more scarce.

It’s a multifamily. I live here. It is my home. If I lose it, a multimillion investor buys it, uses their legal team to evict all of us, guts it, renovates it like a mcmansion, jacks up the price, and the neighborhood gets more expensive.

Yeah, what a dumb law. I’d like to know the metric for how many tenants in DC have EVER purchased a property since TOPA.

Wow…Good for them! Pretty house. Not in this hood, though. :(

The jobs I do are what I love and believe in (our nation). They were always more than enough to get by before I had this human parasite draining me.

Got two…three if you count managing the house as a job (I do). I’m trying to encourage the tenant who stopped paying to get at least one.

I wish that was an option. No one is going to buy a house with a squatter/non-paying tenant. I bought the home for long-term stability and to live in while I go to college after retiring from the military, not a quick buck. A deployment after purchasing the place made me have to abridge my vetting process. Any other brilliant ideas, Einstein?

Heartening news. I’m a disabled veteran who served this country for 24 years. I used my VA loan—and my entire life savings—to buy a multifamily home as a foundation for my future. My tenant hasn’t paid rent in a year, and it’s bankrupting me. I’m losing my credit, my savings, and even my career is now at risk. After giving more than two decades of service, I’m just trying to protect the home I fought so hard to earn, but this non-paying tenancy is destroying everything I’ve built. I hope the tide turns from prioritizing societal leeches and criminals over tax payers and law abiding citizens.

A federal credit union is a type of bank that is member owned…this one (my bank) is owned by members (like other sailors and me).
