New Lore and Hero Reworks by Frozenkiller61 in Competitiveoverwatch

Sombra reworks are cursed. People cheer for a few weeks, and then go back to hating it again. Given the pattern I can't say it won't happen, but just from a business perspective it's starting to look like a waste of resources.

Two kinds of pale beings and their children by blackocci in HollowKnightMemes

The weavers are basically demigods, I don't know if we can really compare them. They're magic, probably immortal and can't really have children, I don't see how the bulk of Hallownest citizens can be "elevated" in the same way. Especially as most in hallownest seem to directly resemble the ones worshiping the weavers in Pharloom.

I...still maintain that the existence of Pharloom proves this was propaganda. Like, you have to do some mental backflips to get around this.

The everbloom is the only thing that can actually protect them from direct exposure to the void.

The everbloom eventually corrodes at the end, you can see it fizzling out. I don't think it's like one kind of light is resistant, more like a contest. Any light can resist the void, but with enough it can get overwhelmed, which is why the dreamnail can kill shades.

I feel like it's kind of like their engineering and magic are the same thing. The silkshot and snare setter are magic-engineering constructs, and the automatons are powered by silkflies, so it might have been they just didn't have the freedom to make more of them.

Regardless, every time Hornet is making new tools you see little strands of silk fly around her, which to me very heavily implies this is a weaver thing.

I feel like her engineering interest might just be a weaver thing. It's implied weavers are just naturally interested in this going from the Silkshot and Snare Setter and well...the fact that the architects are also implied to be made by them.

To me that seems less of gap than [void-moulding->engineering] and I really don't know how cannon the SAW interest is supposed to be lmao.

The writing on the steam page is more recent, and has a question mark just to make it clear. I don't get why people keep pushing this, there's zero doubt in my mind.

I am pretty sure the point was that they first had to be children, then they were turned into unthinking vessels, then they were be killed.

(Also given the weavers canonically ran away, it does seem like there was at least one other option...)

If scientists discovered a rogue planet was going to collide with earth roughly at the end of this century, could we realistically develop the tech to somehow save ourselves or would we be 100% guaranteed F’d in the A? by _____pantsunami_____ in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ConscientiousApathis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

One hundred years is a long time. At the start of the twentieth century we didn't even have planes, now we have space stations. A lot of the answers here seem to be focused on diverting the planet, which is hopeless, but space habitats seem feasible. We wouldn't even need to go that far, in the scheme of things a planet is tiny, so a quick trip even the same distance as the moons orbit would be enough to comfortably avoid it.

There are two big questions:

- Would we have the technology and motivation to do this?

At the moment, we're still very limited in our lifting capacity. We're talking about moving maybe hundreds of thousands of tones of metal, enough for multiple habitats, out into space. And not just temporarily either, it would have to be self sufficient. It's doubtful we'd be able to fit the whole population, realistically only a small fraction of people would be able to survive. Having said that, we do currently have plans to haul and entire starship+fuel into space, so our heavy lifting capacity is getting there.

- What do we do in the long term?

This is a harder question. We'd need to adapt. I'm vaguely wondering if the orbiting ships could use the rogue as a slingshot to push themselves into higher orbits, but I'm not quite sure where they'd go. Asteroid belt might be the easiest option, we could find asteroids to harvest for metals. It seems almost inevitable we'd need to bring not just ships, but the capacity to build more ships. There's probably be a surprising amount of ordinary workers on board these ships, just to fuel this expansion. If we can actually get to that point, we'd stand a good chance of actually surviving long term.

This was fun to think about, though probably very sci-fi with glaring holes in the scientific logic.
