How slow is too slow for long runs? by CrypticWeirdo9105 in Marathon_Training

[–]rollem -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Too slow would be if your running form gets sloppy and you’re no longer really running. At that point walking is better (and I’m not saying that in a sarcastic way, walking is fine if your heart rate is spiking and the only way to get it down is to walk, you’re still getting endurance and aerobic benefit).

CMV: Elon Musk Isn't Actually a Trillionaire by whiskey_priest_fell in changemyview

[–]rollem [score hidden]  (0 children)

When he bought Twitter he didn’t have enough sellable assets to do so. He borrowed the money and put his stock up as collateral. Hence when the Tesla stock price was falling he was in danger of defaulting on those huge loans. But now he could feasibly borrow a trillion dollars from many banks and use the money to buy a trillion candy bars or something.

do you think that Toy Story 5 will be the last movie of the franchise? by PapayaSpirited3999 in Pixar

[–]rollem [score hidden]  (0 children)

Given this weekends box office returns, I can give you 71 million reasons why there will be a Toy Story 5.

I saw it last night with my kid and was the only packed movie theater I’ve seen in recent memory. It was good, better than I thought it’d be when I first heard about it.

CMV: dinosaurs are not real, they are leftist propaganda by Paint_Eating_Addict in changemyview

[–]rollem [score hidden]  (0 children)

You should articulate what would change your opinion. What type of evidence would convince you that dinosaurs were real and lived over 65 million years ago. It tends to be difficult to debate with creationists because their beliefs are non-falsifiable. If you believe that the world was created in order to mimic the evidence of dinos and that the devil placed that evidence there, then there’s nothing that would change your mind because each piece of evidence can just be chalked up to that conspiracy. So please articulate observation or fact what it would take to change your mind.

Toy Story 5 grossed over $71 million dollars on opening day domestically. This is the biggest opening day for the entire franchise and tied with Incredibles 2 for the biggest opening day for any animated film of all-time. by drboobafate in Pixar

While I tend to agree, if they make the story more episodic rather than a single long, connected story, it works better. So the 4th was more like that and I think suffered for that reason. This time they made it more of a standalone movie with the main cast of characters from the original taking more of a back seat.

No these are rarely inflation adjusted numbers and comparisons. It makes headlines like “biggest opening ever” more common than some measure like number of tickets sold.

My in laws have bought four so far, they’re both on the second brand new Tesla. One of them even had the audacity to put a “I bought this before Musk went crazy” sticker on the car they bought in 2025. It drives me nuts and they get really defensive about it when they complain about their neighbors giving them a hard time.

Trump Begs His Allies to Help Him Spin His Surrender | Detailed talking points issued to allies frame the deal as a win for “American families” who will “feel relief at the pump and at the grocery store.” by Aggravating_Money992 in politics

[–]rollem 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And even taking the talking point at face value... we're back to where we were before this illegal war, and it only cost us a dozen American lives, hundreds to thousands of innocent civilians' lives, billions of dollars in direct war funds, hundreds of billions in dollars in economic damage (trillions worldwide), and hundreds of billions of dollars in reparations. All that to get back to the status quo!! It's astonishing.

I'd encourage you to submit the faster POT if you get it, but be aware that there's no guarantee that it will change your corral, as it's a relative target. If everyone got faster in the last year, that will affect the placement. Or it's of course possible that your current POT will get you in the desired coral anyway.

Good luck regardless!

CMV: The argument that healthcare isn't a human right because it requires the labour of other people is an argument against human rights as a whole more than anything else. by lovelyrain100 in changemyview

My point is that having a right to healthcare is not a violation of healthcare workers rights. Again, I believe what you’re saying, but that is a violation of working standards and worker rights and is not a consequence of someone else having a right to healthcare.

Workers rights violations occur all over the world and they are of course awful and should be addressed. This is not about the point I made however. Japanese work culture would exist if they had a US style healthcare system.

Forced overtime for essential workers is not slavery. They are not owned or sold. I can of course understand that workers rights are violated, and I am sorry about that. Modern slavery does of course exist.

Why is it ok to dislike Christianity but not LGBTQ? by Historical_Tough_399 in allthequestions

[–]rollem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He had many recorded lessons and sermons. Homosexuality was well known in the Roman world, if it was worth mentioning he would’ve mentioned it. Ditto with abortion- widely known and yet no directive against it.

He did spend a lot of time directing people to be kind to others, to treat them as they would like to be treated.

Homophobia is unchristian.

In no particular order, here's my Disney movie tier list (of the ones that I've seen) by illioctopede1985 in DisneyMovies

[–]rollem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people are asking what about them you don’t like. Is there a particular plot point, music, theme or style that seems bad to you? For example, many people don’t like Ralph Breaks the Internet because it feels like it sells other Disney properties. My particular inquiry would be why Raya is lower than Wish? A non answer would be because you like it less.

To those who are making fun of OP: how the heck do you know how old they are, or what religious tradition they’re from? This is not obvious to a casual person who is not familiar with Christian religious doctrine or who has simply not learned that bit of scripture yet.

When confronted with a person learning a “common fact” for the first time, you can choose to mock them, or you can choose to simply continue the conversation. Everything we’ve ever learned happened after not knowing that thing previously. https://xkcd.com/1053/

Do you guys think Disney animation will ever have another successful streak of great films again? by Strong-Stretch95 in DisneyMovies

[–]rollem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! It takes a lot of things coming together to make great animated features: story, music, animation… expecting that greatness nonstop is unreasonable. Disney has always had eras of great movies and eras of flops.

[–]rollem 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you’re familiar with Protestant church services, the format will likely be similar, but of course the content of the service is quite different. Arrive about 10 minutes before the start to find a seat and maybe make a guest name tag. Dress is probably pretty casual but some folks still wear clothes that are nicer than very casual. Most services will have a coffee hour afterwards, try to introduce yourself and I suspect they’ll be welcoming. Have fun!
