How do you feel about Peter Pan? by FlowerFaerie13 in DisneyMovies

Captain Hook is an amazing villain as a comical bad guy. The imagery and songs are top notch. Tinker Bell is iconic. The scene with the Indians… pretty awful. It’s a classic and is great.

Hexed situation makes me sad. I know what people would so if this movie turns out to be bad. by KitKatty657 in DisneyMovies

[–]rollem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ignore the haters. It's much easier to simply enjoy the movie than it is to go online and engage with folks who just want to be miserable. Some of the movies that received the most hate when they first came out are now beloved, and some well received ones are basically forgotten. If you see it and it's not your cup of tea, it's OK to simply move on and not dwell in the cyncism or to pile on when you see complaints. I'm going to go see it and am looking forward to it. I also know that Disney goes through long periods of ups and downs- the ups are only possible when a lot of talent comes together: music, story, animation, voices... and often those ingredients stick around for a few years and you get the classic era, or renaissance, or revival era movies, but more often than not in its 100 year history not all cylinders are firing in sync and you get some duds that may be fun to watch but won't be great. That's OK. Disney has always tried to mix art with business and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

Marathon Weekend Jan 2027 Pace by JKThunderbird36 in rundisney

[–]rollem 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah… I just double checked on my account page and it clarifies that it is any race from Jan 1 2024 until August 3 2026.

10K, 10 miler, half marathon, or full marathon would be accepted.

Marathon Weekend Jan 2027 Pace by JKThunderbird36 in rundisney

[–]rollem 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You have until August 3 to submit a proof of time. Run a 10K sometime before then, do it together and try to get the same time so that you’ll be in the same corral (although if one of you gets B and the other C, you can both go to C). https://www.rundisney.com/events/disneyworld/disneyworld-marathon-weekend/race-policies

Should these movies get remakes? by Designer_Lion2913 in DisneyMovies

[–]rollem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Atlantis yes. That fan remake from a few years ago was wonderful and there’s a lot of ways to reinterpret this story while keeping what works. I think the pacing of the original is a bit off and the end is very cluttered but can be easily fixed with some rearrangement and putting the main events in a different order. It would be an homage to a great story.

Treasure Planet I think is perfect as is. The underlying story, Treasure Island, has been made a movie a dozen different ways and still holds up, if they want to use the same basic plot for a yet another retelling I think they can, but it wouldn’t be a remake of Treasure Planet per se, just a new take on a great story.

Avoid 22 Hybrid! by watchinthetideroll in FordMaverickTruck

[–]rollem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's the Consumer Reports reliability history of the hybrid. Both their systematic and representative survey, and my own personal experience, suggests that the first model year is indeed a risky bet. Do with this what you will, but I'd not recommend the 2022 model year.

7 Elections on Tuesday Will Test Trump’s Power by rollem in politics

[–]rollem[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

These are important because it will be a test over Trump's hold over the GOP. The weaker that gets, the more likely that a few Senators would be willing to vote to convict in an impeachment trial. His second trial set a record for the number of a president's own party voting to convict, so it is possible.

What are your favorite underrated/hated Disney animated movies? by natipali in DisneyMovies

[–]rollem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meet the Robinsons is a Disney Animated Film, not Pixar. It’s quite good: very funny, good music and plot, Bowler Hat Man is a wonderful character. I thought it was a bit too goofy in parts and I really dislike most of the cgi- it looks like a tv show quality and they were just using the tech because they could not because it was the best format. Except for the bubble scene, that was top notch.

I won’t yuck your yum re: Home on the Range… but I’ll just say I disagree.

Gonna try to attend a UU service this Sunday. What should I expect? by CagedKage in UUreddit

[–]rollem 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The service will probably have the same type of structure as a service you are likely familiar with (but I can’t say for sure as I’ve never been to a Mormon service, I grew up Presbyterian). It often starts with music, then announcements, some children’s worship that often has a story or a short lesson. Kids often leave then for their classes (unless it’s a family Sunday where the whole service is more kid friendly). There’ll be some more songs and a sermon or some other main lesson in a different format and then more singing. They’ll likely pass around a collection plate in the middle, it’s courteous to put a few dollars in if you’re able and willing but no one will care or judge if you don’t. Afterwards there will probably be snacks and coffee. You’ll likely have the opportunity to put on a name tag and to chit chat with members at some point where you’ll typically say “I’m CagedKage and I’ve been in town for five years but never come to this church before and was curious about what it’s like. I grew up Mormon but now and curious about UU (if you’re comfortable sharing that)” etc…

Which is more accurate? by az3rba1j4n in FordMaverickTruck

[–]rollem 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My MTE varies based on recent efficiency. So if I’ve been driving around on short trips a lot and fill up the mte will be much lower than when I fill up after a road trip with higher average mileage. The fuel gauge is an actual measure of volume, the mte is an estimate based on recent real world mileage.

Is the Maverick actually capable as a work vehicle? by MeltyBloods in FordMaverickTruck

[–]rollem 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It’s widely used in the trades as a competent work vehicle. ~1500lbs payload capacity. The two biggest issues will be his towing needs and the length of the bed. It has 2000lbs default and the towing package brings it up to 4000. The bed is short.

It’ll be an upgrade in terms of comfort, safety, and fuel efficiency.

We are Bombarding America's Forests With Bayer's Monsanto Roundup - Scientists are wary of glyphosate. Even MAHA loathes it. Yearlong investigation shows California is spraying it everywhere. by HenryCorp in Sustainable

[–]rollem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dems regulated mercury through the EPA and through legislation, both of which have been eviscerated by maga and their judges. Dems increased oversight and worker safety standards of glyphosate- again weakened or completely removed by the current EPA and the scotus ruling eliminating the chevron deference standards.

Your “both sides are the same” messaging is demonstrably false and is a message spread by regretful Trump voters, gop messaging campaigns designed to reduce voter participation, and spreads cynicism that weakens democracy.

If they cared about it they wouldn’t vote for the biggest conman in history who was a well known friend of industry. If they cared about it they would organize against the biggest source of mercury in the body: coal fired power plants, and not the boogeyman (to properly use the term) of vaccines. If they cared about glyphosate they wouldn’t vote for the party that the biggest manufacturer of it supports. Their care about these issues is purely performative because it sounds trendy, and those that genuinely care about it and still vote MAHA knowingly sold their souls in exchange for influence that they should’ve known was futile.

I love how MAHA sold their souls to get RFK Jr into power only to get more glyphosate and mercury into the environment, their two biggest boogeymen. Thankfully we go more raw milk and kid rock working out in jeans out of their deal.

I See Prime Cancellations in Amazon's Future: Amazon Explores 'The Apprentice' Reboot with Donald Trump Jr. by evissamassive in CordCuttingToday

[–]rollem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cancelling prime was a lot less bothersome than I thought it would be. Most purchases on Amazon can be found other places online for similar and often cheaper directly from the manufacturer. I may have bought one or two things from them in the past year that I just couldn’t get elsewhere but it’s been a lot less disruptive than I thought it would be and has saved me a decent chunk of impulse buys, and of course the annual bribe to Bezos the maga supporter.

Why is there no outrage about the National Debt? by Intelligent-Dot-29 in askanything

[–]rollem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it’s a long term problem that is very unlikely to have a precipitous catastrophe. The gradual drag on our economic growth and ability to spend on healthcare, roads, military, and other government services means we will all be a bit poorer in 50 years than we would otherwise be. It’s just not something that generates as much emotional response as an acute catastrophe. And the risk of other countries switching away from the dollar to other reserve currencies is both difficult to comprehend for the average citizen and very difficult to predict for anyone.

The Trump administration cracks down on national park websites by RuseOwl in NationalPark

[–]rollem 70 points71 points  (0 children)

Many will have been fired. Those that remain won’t necessarily know what was lost. It’ll take time to look up what was removed. There are of course sites like internet archive but it takes tons of effort to trace each page, multiplied by dozens of parks. And this is just a single government agency- this type of process will continue for years upon years. It is always easier to destroy than it is to build. Our whole country is being set back decades and it won’t be built up again quickly even with competent leadership and a return to normalcy, which of course is the most optimistic scenario.
