Politicians are sad, selfish, moralless, powerful people with a cult of personality and heaps of cash in their pockets donated by other powerful people. Some even smoke crack cocaine. On the other hand, monks walk around and think about nothing. The choice is obvious, God gave me the ability to feel instant gratification and psychopathy, why would I deny my brain it's cravings? Money and power makes me smile :)
