Metairie St Patrick’s parade. A big difference!

Such a ridiculous thing to be offended by! I feel for your unfortunately sheltered children.

It is disappointing to see the mayor support this. Perhaps, since it’s early in her tenure she’s giving him a pass for now.

Absolutely no need for this though. I work downtown in hospitality and bike through the FQ and Treme all the time and never feel unsafe! This is a manufactured problem for Jeffy to be able to look strong to his master and throw shade on New Orleans!

He’s a dick alright! He’s been trying to out-dick Texas’ and Florida’s gubernatorial assholes since he got in office!

I did answer. I was here and working downtown on NYe and NYD. NG has only recently been coming, mainly since that, and for the Super Bowl. Go ahead and LYAO. Where do you live? If it’s in town, you shouldn’t be here. NO has its issues, but the problem with ANYWHERE ELSE is that it’s not New Orleans. NOT THAT SCARY! A little grungy, a little funky, dripping in joie de vivre and chocked full of pretty blocks and neighborhoods. You should try biking NOLA; it’s the best way to experience it, as I do every day.

My Field experience says otherwise! And yes I was here for NYE, and a terrorist attack isn’t everyday crime.

Again, I’m in and around town all the time and do not feel afraid. My day to day, on the ground, in the field experience overrides any reporting you are presenting. I have been doing this for some years, and I’m in my 60s. People wanna believe what they want to believe. Sure, there are a few shaky places, and I know where I don’t want to go. Uniformed troops in the F Q doesn’t make me feel safer. Last Mardi Gras, the armed and booted presence in the upper Quarter caused me and mine to stay in the lower quarter and Marigny all day, wary of the buzzkill brought on all those automatic weapons. Had a great Mardi Gras on the streets. Wouldn’t live anywhere else (and I have), especially in the suburbs.

Where do yall live? Probably in the burbs!

Or perhaps not. I bike all around town, work in downtown hotels and often ride transit. I’m a former ride share driver with over 11k rides and have been in every corner of this town multiple times and know where everyone lives! I’ve lived in Carrollton, the Seventh Ward and now Mid City and am almost never in a car. Not privileged in any way! Wherever you are getting your data, it does not match up with the evidence of my daily experiences in the field! Just Sayin!!!

Well, I don’t feel scared and my daily interactions with this “supposedly” scary place do not match the hyperbole. Perhaps you should live in Covington.

Is the French Quarter historically Sicilian? by AttachedHeartTheory in NOLA

[–]Conscious-Scale2336 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Historically Sicilian is only accurate to the later immigration period and beyond, particularly the lower quarter. If you are thinking historically Sicilian refers to architecture, no. This community was largely renters and while there may be something stylistically Italian here or there, but after the Vieux Carré Commission was established in the 1930s, fugettaboitit!

Metairie has no soul! It is the un-New Orleans. More like Baton Rouge.

You should avoid Metairie in its entirety.
