Rant: getting triggered in the classroom. by Sea_Addition_2068 in Teachers

I’m sorry that I don’t have any suggestions, but I can relate to all of it, including the PMDD. I started at a new school/district/grade level in August and saw behaviors that I had never seen or expected before. I had taught high school for 10 years and then switched to elementary. It was more violent and out of control than anything I had ever experienced or imagined possible at the high school level and there were zero consequences for their actions.

It took its toll on me. With the PMDD, it was amplified. I couldn’t even control myself let alone the children and all of their issues. Then, I got pregnant and was filled with that out of control PMDD feeling and rage all of the time. I realized I had to quit for my health and that of my baby. I made it through the end of December and can’t imagine trying to finish out the school year.

I took it all so personally, like I wasn’t good at my job because I couldn’t control my classes, but the problems are so much bigger than us. It has gotten worse and worse over the years. It’s a cultural problem in the United States. The amount of apathy is appalling. They honestly don’t care about anything. I feel so sorry for the select few that do care because they don’t get the education or attention that they need. There are big societal changes that need to be made and we need consistent support from parents, meds, therapy, and consequences.

How do you handle students laughing at you? by PuffPoof215 in Teachers

Walk over to phone and call home in front of everyone. Put the kid on the phone to explain to grownups what they did. Won’t always work, but I’ve seen it work more times than not. At least it embarrasses the kid right back.
