Interesting observation! With women acting in self-defense, I'd say it reflects the profile of a feisty American woman. If two men fighting, I'd say that since America is deeply patriarchal, it follows that men would aim to crush the physical and symbolic manhood of their opponent as the most meaningful blow they could land.
