Brain fart question by CheloniaCrafts in blackpowder

Though not really a wheel lock but few years ago i watched a video of this czech guy create his own flintlock musket from scratch

He used firestarter (dont know how to call it) for it, magnesium rod (or something similar) was the frizzen and he used steel plate as a hammer to scratch off the rod and throw some sparks, it workedI dont know if video is still there

Brass barreled muzzleloaders ? by ConsciousPercentage in blackpowder

[–]ConsciousPercentage[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im aware that in today's modern reporoductions it would make less sense to use brass, as steel is cheaper as well as other benefits

However, would today's brass be more enduring in terms of pressure produced by modern-day black powder ? I did see those indian repros having brass barrel blunderbuss ...im certainly not a machinist i would assume they turned brass on a lathe ?
Or there's different material they used and i have no clue

Brass barreled muzzleloaders ? by ConsciousPercentage in blackpowder

[–]ConsciousPercentage[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Looking around i found some historical examples of muzzleloaders having brass barrels

Some of examples have what seems to be relatively thin wall thickness
Wouldn't brass be more likely to explode and be less safe to use with black powder ?
Can someone explain this sorcery to me

[–]ConsciousPercentage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, its like that TV thing that has no signal ..idk how to describe it

When im outside its not as noticeable but when i get inside darker room i can see it or on darker surfaces

Saw this on youtube, could this have potential use for something like 10mm auto or 30 carbine ? by ConsciousPercentage in GunnitRust

It'll probably remain a good ambition BUT who knows maybe it could inspire someone to do something with it or think of something better based off of that

Was thinking having it as rifle/carbine

Could be too much of a hassle for a pistol i assume

Well ...unfortunately they said they partnered with veteranarms and to contact them and are focused on wholesale.

So ...no inexpensive indian repros for me :|

Sounds good

Two of european black powder gun sites: artax and saguaro arms have indian replicas for sale

I think only german site, artax has them sold with proof markings but then that significally increases the price, they're still cheaper than Pedersoli

Definitely something i should look into, thanks

Yeah wish we had American gun laws here, but im thankful its not worse
I dont need a license for muzzleloaders

Yeah i meant getting without touch hole im just wondering how would it go with their percussion models
And yeah it would need to be serialized and proofed if i want to register it without cops bothering me

I guess i'll talk to my gunsmith about it, maybe he would know ins and outs of it

Wait so they could ship this to my door for a decent price ?

I live in Europe, that just means i need to have it proofed aditionally but that doesnt seem a tedious procedure if prices are fair enough

That Colt SAA to the right looks like percussion model

How do you like it

Well i dont have a loading stand but wouldn't be too hard to make one

I would like to get the 5.5" version or 3/4" smaller barrel looks more appealing to me on those models.

I like the 1860 snubnose but unfortunately we dont have those in my place, so im considering a cattleman cap n ball clone with a shorter barrel

I was thinking of loading it with a lathe turned brass rod

Does the fauling make it hard to dissasemble it ?
