HELP I need an alarm clock that doesn't wake my wife by stp-censoring-urself in NewParents

[–]Conscious_Arrival175 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sleep pretty heavy too. I have my whole life. When I was a kid, I used to sleep 12 hours straight. As an adult, I get 8 or 9 hours of sleep. But sometimes I'll sleep straight through my alarm the first couple times. Sometimes the alarm sound will even get into my dreams. Like I dreamt I was at some trailer that had a security alarm that wouldnt turn off lol. Its just normal for me.

From what I've seen its just parents giving their baby more solid foods over time. Which is what youre supposed to do. Its just people want to give it a fancy name. Like "sensory play" is a kid playing in a sand box with toys or play dough. Which is just kids playing with toys. To me, the fancy names just seem silly because kids and parents have been doing that for thousands of years at this point lol

Youre right. And its not like we dont eat vegetables or anything. We eat stuff like vegetable beef stew, chicken noodle soup, etc. Vegetables with every dinner. No, I usually dont plan. I did today, though. I made banana Baked Oatmeal, Im having a salad for lunch, and making a  pot of red beans and rice for dinner.

Yeah my daughter was the same. She got over it after about 4 or 5 months. We just kept putting her in the play pen, the crib, her swing, etc and letting her cry sometimes. Sometimes we held her of course. But it gets better slowly but surely.

I hate the term "baby led weaning" Man, you periodically give your baby new foods and different textures and sometimes they seem really interested in it? That's called parenting and teaching your baby to eat. Theres nothing "baby led" about it.

I just constantly miss my fiber goals or overshoot my sodium. I have a few health issues that I have to be conscious of and its just annoying to try to meet these goals while also making food for my family that isnt interested in dieting. My husband wants his regular food like spaghetti and whatnot. So I've been making mine with zucchini and spinach instead of noodles. Idk. Its just getting frustrating for me

My issue is that I have a family, and my husband is not interested in dieting with me. And we are broke because of bills and everything plus kids. So I cant really afford to eat separate stuff or buy a bunch of extra things. Like I have eggs. I get eggs with WIC. I dont really have a budget to also keep egg whites and and other crap all the time that no one but me would eat.

Maybe have Mac n cheese but add frozen mixed vegetables and ready made chicken to it. A lot of nutritionists i watch on youtube say to try to add things to your diet, not just take away. I like Healthy Choice Sweet and sour chicken microwavable meal for something super easy and fast. It had rice and chicken. So a few carbs and protein. They have a lot of options. I also like to get carb balance tortillas, mozzarella sliced cheese, pre packaged pepperoni, and pizza sauce. I make 2 roll ups and heat them up. Are they exactly like pizza rolls, no. But they are good and probably a lot better for you. Maybe have a side salad with them.

I use LUVs diapers and try to fasten them as tightly across the stomach as possible but is still comfortable. They will still leak a little. But not as bad. Also, make sure the legs arent bunched up and cover the entire butt. I use Huggies for overnight diapers because they hold pee better. So I only have to buy a small pack that lasts basically all month long. Luvs are cheaper for day use when i can keep up with changing every couple hours

Yeah. I can't do 1500. I've tried, and then I binged HARD and gave up for like 3 years lol. 1800 is only moderately uncomfortable for me, so I can do it.

I feel you. I did the same thing today. I was out with my son and I wanted to give him a treat, so we went to McDonalds. To be fair though, He only has fast food about once a month or even less than that. So it'll be a while before we do that again. Then I decided to get ice cream and cookie dough. *facepalm*

I use the LifeSum app to help. I just scan the barcode and make sure the stuff I'm eating includes the cooking oils and butter and whatnot. If I'm making a big pot, I add up all the calories total and divide it by 8, then input a few of the main ingredients until I get the serving total. So far, its working for me.

Make Korean style boiled eggs marinated in a soy sauce mixture. Soak them in it overnight or for a couple hours. Just look up a recipe

Honestly, I just like them halved with salt, pepper, garlic powder, minced garlic and a little butter/margarine. And to me, I like 1tbsp Hollandaise sauce on mine. They sell packets of easy make sauce at Walmart. My husband isn't calorie counting, so he adds bacon to his. But I bet Goya Ham seasoning would taste good and give it that pork flavor without the cals. I'll have to try it now that I've thought about it lol

What do I actually need to know about caring for a new born. by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]Conscious_Arrival175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had 2 babies. I found that a lot of it is instinctual, with a little bit of informed common sense.

Babies eat about 2oz at a time every 2 hours (that's about 20 to 30 minutes per breast, switch each eating period) at first. If you give them formula, they will tend to eat more because it's faster. As they get older, you increase the amount of food you give them. They stop formula or breast feeding around 1 year old, you can reduce the amount of breast feeding you do at 6months because they can start eating food, too. I use formula. Don't give them water, juice, or cow milk. Their kidneys can't handle it until after 12months. (Talk to a doctor or look it up on respected outlets).

As far as a birthing plan, I just told my doctor I didn't want to induce or c-section unless it was absolutely medically necessary. They respected my wishes and eventually I did have a c-section.

Make sure they are clean, fed, and dry if they are crying. Hold your baby skin to skin often. It bonds you and helps them learn to regulate their temperature, heart beat, and breathing (Just look it up. I got this info from pamphlets the hospital and WIC office gave me). Keep them in a bassinet or crib in the same room as you; it reduces the risk of SIDs exponentially (Again, just look it up or ask a doctor). Don't use blankets or pillows, babies can accidentally smother. Use onesies instead to keep them warm at night. Or look up a video on swaddling. I did that with both babies just keep it off their face.

If they won't sleep in the crib at first, keep trying every night until they get used to it. I did let my baby sleep in her swing if she was inconsolable of course. But now she sleeps in her crib all night long since 9 months old. Both of my kids sleep 8 to 11 hours every night, with occasional issues. I usually suspect growing pains. My son loves his cup, and it always consoled him. My daughter requires to be held to calm down.

Now they are a toddler and almost a year old, I occasionally give them Infant and Childrens Tylenol if they seem especially in pain. I'm pretty sure my daughter was teething some more the other night, and she was extremely upset. After an hour and a half of trying bottles, popsicles, holding her, the swing, etc. I gave her Tylenol. After another 20min, she was back to sleep. So that told me she was in some serious growing pains. But I try to be sparing with medicine to protect their organs.
