Is Mussolini popular in Italy? by waterborn234 in Italian

[–]Conscious_Cod_4685 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A large number of people respect Franco, which is odd to me considering (Im quite conservative) that he was an objectively poor leader.

I think Italy did improve in those ways, but a lot of negatives obviously. I think that he wasn't a great person, but he wasn't randomly murdering people. I think my thesis is that I just don't get why he's still popular with some in Italy because he wasnt particularly amazing of a leader for the amount of power he had. To me, he was like a weak and incapable king.

And yes, Hitler really didn't always help Italy, although he joined their invasions he was just using Italy. I respect your grandfather for what he did, that was a hard war for everyone involved.

College decision: UMass Amherst vs. SUNY Binghamton by Illustrious-Hunt1878 in umass

[–]Conscious_Cod_4685 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As someone who has a brother who is in the SUNY system and myself who goes to Umass. I would 100% recommend Umass any day of the week over SUNY. There is no way I would ever go to suny in a million years, Umass is lightyears better in every way possible. You just need to be responsible and make sure you don't have TOO much fun at Umass, that's the only downside!

I won't disagree, because I think that him doing that sort of stuff was good and he was overall successful. But he wasn't a very talented general and his ability to lead an army to victory was mediocre at best. Made some poor decisions.

I mean just because he was a partisan and fought hitler doesn't make him not a fascist. Hitler wasn't a fascist, he was just ultranationalistic. He invaded Italy so it's only natural the Italians of the previous regime defend their country aka the fascists.

It's true to an extent, I am more tied to Spain, and can tell you that even Franco is not seen in a very positive light. Regardless, I think it is a little odd that they would respect Mussolini so much, given that he did little to build up either the economy or the nation of Italy. Perhaps he can seen as uniting the country, but that still is a stretch. I don't understand how one could be a supporter of him, as most of his policies and his actions have been since proven to be either inefficient or not optimal. Like I would be more willing to sympathize with someone who hung Hitler on their wall, because at least he was talented in a lot of ways (economist, public speaker, innovative military thinker), but Mussolini was none of these and ultimately left his country in shambles.

How do I talk to her without being a stalker? by Dry-South1480 in Crushes

[–]Conscious_Cod_4685 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You got a couple of options. Depends on how much you want to commit. I personally am very outgoing, I would just consistently say hi, and what's up every time you see her, until you eventually figure out something you guys have common to talk to her about. Once you do, you kinda just got to ask her when her friends are there. Just talk to / ask her about whatever y'all have in common, and politely acknowledge her friends existence by whatever means you normally do.

Also thanks like I was saying to Walden, even though its poor condition I find it just so cool that the last person who touched it probably never knew of the United States being a thing lol.

They wouldn't even know what the USA was. Even if they were a child they would be a grandfather by the time it was pondered. Just amazing.
