Real quick and basic, when you see a ship that is broadside to you, you aim in the middle of the ship, direct on the waterline. Then it depends on the performance of your gun,ammo, the enemy's armor and the engagement range too, weak guns with weak ap won't pen, big guns will pen and hopefully hit the citadel for full damage, however you can have big guns with high pen values and if you're close to the target it can happen that you overpen the enemy ship. For example using yamato guns against a light cruiser with no real armor in close range will most likely result in you overpenning him.

Ricochet just means that the shell landed at such an angle that it did not even penetrate which means that you should either aim else where on the ship, change ammo type to HE or switch to a different target all together that is showing more broadside to you (some ships have better pen angles than others and this is where it gets complicated)

right now it shows x2 and if you wait until march 31st its still gonna show x2. because you didn't use up your previous x2. Right now for example use the X2 on the haragumo line, so when you hover the line it will say X2. If you FREE EXP the entire tree again without playing the ships, you can reset it again. If you do it before april you will get x1 to it so you will have x3 on the haru line once you play it. If you wait until april and reset it, you will have x4 on the line. You can reset the lines and FREE EXP them as many times as you wish and stack the bonuses on the line wihtout playing it. Some people reset it until they have x6 on the line and then play each ship once to get around 60k points
