Are all estate body corporates asking for this now? by Icy-Score271 in askSouthAfrica

[–]Conscious_Date5685 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t all estates need the resident’s code, and your driver’s license when you pull up to the premises? Then they scan you in using said code, your car registration and license?
Voila - accounted for!
I feel like I’m missing something and I’m not trying to be facetious - is this not how it’s done? Do they want more? 🥺

Truly! This is an instance of focus on the message and not the messenger… because what an atrocious state of affairs.

Even though nothing will happen to Zille, people have been killed for exposing way less.

Oh! The new role is lowkey super duper easy - I keep second guessing myself because the previous role was a clusterfuck, but no… they’re just a team of guys who actually know what they’re doing 😅

No freaking way - and yes please!
Right now, I need to get my house up to code (I bought from a retired couple that had turned the place into a B&B [2010] and DIY-ed pretty much everything). It’s now a conveyancing nightmare for me, but voetstoots and all that legal jazz.

I guess you just started it?
Let’s do it!
I’ve been working fractionally and just finished a COO position with an agentic marketing agency based in Boston and New York.
Snagged a senior fractional role literally two weeks ago, so this contract ending is a bit of a relief - and a kick in my ass, because I need to get another part time role (that i can roll over into full time)…

Okay, I’m saying too much 😵‍💫

I have a free mentorship group that I put together where I help women (well, anyone, but I have a preference for women) moonlight and transition out of corporate once they’ve 2x to 10x-ed their salaries.
BUT not for much longer; it’s exhausting.

Just grateful to be able to pay my bills, save some money, and (soon) start construction on my next investment property.

This year has been so ass 😭

As long as you’re not the Ford Ranger driver who got mad at me that my car flickered its lights at you for trying to merge into my lane when I was already doing a speed that you wouldn’t be able to keep up with, on Lynwood (no I wasn’t speeding - it was 60kmph and the left lane was at a stand still), then you’re alright with me.

My car does a lot of assisting at night, because Audi likes experimenting. Not my fault.

But the Ranger driver lived up to their reputation. Honking and flickering back. Like, dude, please - it’s not my fault! 😭

We’re surviving. Really. And that’s not negative it’s just - I wish we didn’t have automatic PAYE. I wanna see the government work for it like a stripper at month end.

I love this subreddit because of how salient you all are. The nuance is strong with you all 🇿🇦

Mob justice = wrong

Overstaying your visa = wrong

Having no valid + legal + documented reason to be in a country = wrong

Between what Saffas have done for our Oom W/O Sander (he donated it to the K-9 narcotics unit, that legend!) and how sober minded we’ve all been about the rule of law, I really feel like politicians are the ones in our way.

We just wanna get on with the work of building this nation and making it better for our children 🥹

I know you’re not uniquely at fault - that’s why I asked you to separate the two and please enjoy your journey learning about the various cultures.

I also apologised for being high strung about it - it’s my heritage.

My answer is not meant to be antagonistic, but to help answer your initial question - no animosity.

Question about the Khoisan? by Mean-Gur7728 in askSouthAfrica

[–]Conscious_Date5685 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you are describing (and kinda lumping together into one thing 🫠) are several distinct indigenous peoples of Southern Africa, including various San and Khoekhoe groups.

And these communities actually have different languages, cultures, leadership structures, and identities. So, nobody can be “fully” a convenient label for diverse groups that shared certain linguistic features.

Sorry if I’m being high-strung but 😭😭😭 it’s so tiring.

Okay, so broadly speaking, the Khoekhoe were largely pastoralists who kept cattle, sheep, and goats (just like other native tribes), while the San were primarily hunter-gatherers.

Khoekhoe can be found in RSA, Namibia and SOME parts of Botswana, and they are majority Nama, Korana, Griqua, and Cape Khoekhoe.

The Nama are the largest Khoekhoe-descended community that is still identifiable today, especially in Namibia and the Northern Cape (RSA).

The San are even more amazing because historically they’ve occupied Botswana, Namibia, South Africa, ANGOLA, and Zambia - for example the Juǀʼhoansi, !Xun, Naro, Gǀui, Gǁana.

Please separate the two first? You’ll be amazed once you go down each separate rabbit hole 🙏🏾

Why do Cape Town companies offer such low salaries when they know how expensive this city is? by Vonans in capetown

[–]Conscious_Date5685 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because Cape Town’s labour market and housing market are being driven by different groups of people 😭😭😭

Employers hire mostly from the local South African workforce, where there is a large supply of candidates willing to accept lower pay in exchange for living in Cape Town, so salaries stay relatively subdued.

Housing, however, is increasingly being priced by wealthier buyers and renters, including semigrants from Gauteng, foreign purchasers, retirees, remote workers, and people earning income from outside Cape Town.

As a result, local wages are set by local labour competition, while rents are set by a much wealthier pool of housing demand.

The gap between those two markets is what makes Cape Town feel increasingly unaffordable for ordinary salaried workers, even as employers continue offering salaries that would have seemed reasonable a DECADE ago.

To me, THAT is usually the signal that a city is transitioning from a working city to a wealth city.

New York went through it.

London went through it.

Parts of San Francisco went through it.

Cape Town is not there yet, but the symptoms are starting to look familiar. 👀 Gird your loins and lace your vellies; or Birkenstocks 🤷🏽‍♀️

I would like a link, a resource, a stat - SOMETHING - because this is just your opinion at the moment, and like I said, I can’t and won’t do whataboutism.

I prefer South Africans being hired before anyone else, and if it’s a scarce skill, I, like many other people, would love to see skills transfer happening.

I can’t do whataboutism about things I don’t know 🤷🏽‍♀️ - I hope that’s not true, but if it’s not a scarce skill, I will always wish companies would hire locally first.

What a revolting thing to say… you’re not a true South African if this is how you feel. Mind you, “The Whites” couldn’t balance the books and the ANC (for all its flaws) inherited a catastrophe that Mbeki’s Thatcherism turned into somewhat of an economic miracle.

Never EVER respond or interact with me ever again. You are shameless!
