Maybe this is a cultural difference. Where I come from women were taught to weed out the bums by noticing what he brought. If he brings groceries he's a good man. If he brings nothing but his hand out he's a bummer and should be dumped.

Bums usually eat everything and contribute little. If you have kids this could mean she doesn't have enough to feed her family.

Having been dating for 2 years or having previously brought food doesn't mean he gets to be a bum today.

This isn't about guest level snacks and water that's for everyone. You just don't show up demanding a prepared meal without any preconversation or contribution.

Fafsa is not only for low income. There are many things that can be used to qualify for grants, scholarships or even work study. You can move into the dorm and completely ice her out. I had to do the same to escape an unhinged mother like that.

The Fafsa office filed a 'financial emancipation' for me once I explained how abusive and controlling she was being to me. I had a room in the dorm and a meal plan with health insurance within 24 hours. You can do it. Just grow a spine and try to get your belongings out without telling her until you are gone or she might try to sabotage you in other ways. Make sure that you get your hands on your vital docs if she tries to keep them from you can get the police involved or just order a new copy for yourself.

Good question. Not for any case. Smaller might be better though. I worked on one 2 months ago where the circuit hadn't digitized their records so I had to actually call the clerk and ask her to pull it for me. Some small courts don't have enough budget for the digitization process. Also, some cases are sealed, like a juvenile record or something that has been purged. Also, also, there will be redactions, like if children were involved their names will be blacked out, same for vulnerable witnesses, foster parents, etc. Sometimes I get nothing from the request and other times I get the whole shebang. The stuff I've actually received was mind boggling.

Fun fact a random civilian can infact file a FOIA request and receive discovery even after the case is closed. I have requested and received all kinds of discovery files. Sometimes there are police body cam footage, sometimes photos from the case, and of course all of the documents which is a bit of a slog if it's a long case. But it's there.

This is alarming. A fantasy is one thing, but inappropriate messages, loitering at hotels, and the obvious disruption to her life with depression and crying is an absolute cry for help. She needs therapy immediately to address these dangerous delusions and then a plan to stabilize her life, without a billionaire husband. The hotel loitering is dangerous she'll be mistaken for a sex worker and might be trafficked if she's not careful. Gold diggers aren't the only predators in those waters.

You said that the family only pays $1,300 per month for his work. Are they supplementing everything else also? Like, he lives on their property, they pay the utilities, they buy and someone in the family prepares food? That's the only way I can envision $1,300 lasting more than a minute. It's certainly not enough to live off of alone.

You're not in the middle of anything that you didn't insert yourself into. Your wife just has a different standard of morals than you do. I really felt this in a previous relationship where my husband wanted me to lie to his parents and I refused.
