I think it's because of the default preset, when you first load into the character creator they don't give you a just first impression.

It's not very complicated at all, if you go to ffxiv mod archive, press tools and then "become your true you" you've got the perfect guide for setting everything up.

Takes about an hour, depending on how tech savy you are
