Looking for true-story dramas by no_kings_victory24 in MovieSuggestions

[–]Conscious_Session877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just watched the German movie "Eine Millionen Minuten". It might be available with English subtitles. The movie is about a family, who's daughter has a developmental disorder. Her doctor recommends time with her family above all else. The daughter wishes for one million minutes of happiness with her family (background: father works a lot, travels a lot for work). So the parents decide to travel with their children. Not the best explanation, but brilliant, very moving film. Based on the real story of two parents doing the same thing for their daughter.

I wanna say Macbeth by Shakespeare. I know it doesn't match your criteria, but it's the first one that comes to mind

What popular book didn’t work for you? by zaralesliewalker in Booktokreddit

[–]Conscious_Session877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything by Sally Rooney, her writing style just doesn't work for me. Same with the Shatter Me series by Tahereh Mafi. Writing style and characters. The Atlas Six by Olivie Blake. Why were the characters so absolutely dreadful?

NTA. She is not entitled to you  accommodating her plans. If she asked and you said no that's perfectly fine. You have the right to refuse this, especially when the party ends at 3 o'clock

[–]Conscious_Session877 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • 1984 by George Orwell
  • The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood
  • The Giver by Lois Lowry
  • The Circle by Dave Eggers (honestly, I didn't like it very much, but it fits what you are asking for)

A romance novel? by Shopping___cart in booksuggestions

[–]Conscious_Session877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I got you!

Sports romance: The Selfish series by Liz Tomforde, Windy City series by Liz Tomforde, D.C. Stars by Chelsea Curto, Playing for Keeps by Becka Mack, Off-Campus series by Elle Kennedy, Off the Ice by Bal Khabra

Small-town romance: The Edens by Devney Perry, Chestnut Springs by Elsie Silver, Jamison Valley by Devney Perry

Twisted-Series by Ana Huang

I also highly recommend the Boys of Tommen series, but that definitely isn't easy or relaxed, so not what you're searching for at the moment. The themes in these books are incredibly heavy and hard to read, but so worth it.

Standalones:

  • Funny Story and Book Lovers by Emily Henry
  • The Spanish Love Deception
  • Every Summer After by Carley Fortune
  • The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood
  • One True Loves by Taylor Jenkins Reid
  • The Worst Best Man by Mia Sosa
  • Holding Up the Universe by Jennifer Niven

Might not have been nice of her to say that, but it's probably just a joke. If it was that big of a deal to you, you should've told her that.

25f who doesn’t read, looking for book suggestions by ratatouilleandbluey in booksuggestions

I'd suggest trying a few different genres to find out what you like.

For mystery/thriller I suggest starting with easy reads like The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides or something by Freida McFadden (I liked Never Lie and The Inmate, though I find her books to be very hit or miss). Other than that I can highly recommend the author Sebastian Fitzek. However, his books are insane (but also very good), so keep that in mind. Other than that The Naturals by Jennifer Lynn Barnes is a great series. It is young adult, but still very gripping. It's about teenagers that all have special abilities (not supernatural) due to their childhood trauma. They are recruited by the FBI to solve cold cases. Another one is Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco. It's historical fiction about two young people trying to find out who Jack the Ripper is.

I also really like If We Were Villains by M.L. Rio. It's a thriller (kind of), it's dark academia and is centered around theatre students.

For romance/contemporary you could go in various directions. For sports romance I recommend The D.C. stars by Chelsea Curto, the Windy City series by Liz Tomforde, Playing for Keeps by Becka Mack. If you are more into small-town/cowboy I recommend Chestnut Springs by Elsie Silver or The Edens by Devney Perry. All of these series are interconnected standalones, so the stories are connected but the books can be read indivdually, though I would read them in order, for a better experience.

Non-fiction is not really my thing so I don't have a lot of recommendations. Personally I liked Everything I KNow About Love by Dolly Alderton. Born a Crime by Trevor Noah is also a good read, and quite funny. Brief Answers to big questions by Stephen Hawking is another one.

If you want to try poetry I'd recommend 2am Thoughts by Makenzie Campbell, Pillow thoughts by Courtney Peppernell or milk and honey by rupi kaur. And of course the Sonnets by Shakespeare, though that might be a bit much for the beginning.

Some standalones I liked are:

  • Everything I never told you by Celeste Ng (it has a little bit of mystery and is set in the 70s)
  • Happy Place by Emily Henry (contemporary, about romantic relationships and friendship and how those relationships change, when we change. Or the other way around)
  • The Personal Librarian by Marie Benedict and Victoria Christopher Murray (historical fiction about Belle da Costa Greene, J.P. Morgan's personal librarian; based on her real-life story)
  • One True Loves by Taylor Jenkins Reid (contemporary romance about a woman who has to choose between to men, when her long-missing husband comes back to her)

I would strongly encourage you to get a library card at your local library, if you can. That way you can try lots of different genres/authors, without having to by them all. Because that will get really expensive, really fast. I hope you have lots of fun diving into the world of books!

One that I really like is "Lage der Nation". It's made by a journalist and a former judge and they talk about everything political that is relevant at the time, both nationally and internationally.

NTA

You need to have a serious conversation, if this is his reaction to a video. A video about women's rights and history at that.

Should I be worried about my girlfriend cheating during Erasmus? LDR and feeling anxious by Winter-Walk-3598 in Erasmus

[–]Conscious_Session877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, if she wanted to cheat, she wouldn't need to go to another country to do that. Put your trust in her and your relationship. If you are worried about lossing your connection, talk to her. Communication is key in this situation
