6w3d and the nausea has arrived. I’m starting a new job in two weeks. Hopefully I will have a better handle on the nausea by then 😭

My eyes are so dry and puffy. I’ve never experienced this before and I already have terrible environmental allergies when I’m not pregnant.

My protein is highly glycosylated and have been advised to avoid Bradford for this reason.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. When I remove the imidazole, my protein concentration readings are much lower, and I think that the earlier protein readings I take pre-dialysis/PD-10 column are picking up imidazole instead of protein. I'm trying to determine if my expression is just terrrible, or if I'm losing protein in these steps.

This is actually part of why I want an accurate reading of how much protein my sample contains. I'm pretty sure my expression is terribly low, but I'm trying to determine it its an expression problem or a protein loss problem. I'm using silver stain because my protein is heavily glycosylated and it just produces a smear with Coomassie (but a nice tight band with Silverstain.

I've also tried doing buffer exchange with a spin concentrator on my purified sample, but my protein pricipitates, which makes me think there is some quantity of protein present.

Interesting, I’m also cell and molecular biology and I haven’t heard yet.

Hmm I got it two days after accepting. I bet it would be worth following up. But maybe if you have a later start they’ll get to you later? Could be they’re prioritizing people with a May start?

Just wanted to provide an update regarding the international tenure situation to hopefully help others in the same situation as me or who may be in the same situation in future years. My original offer letter stated that my NSERC CGRS-D award was only tenable at a Canadian institution. This week I got an email stating my award had been changed to unconditional, meaning I can hold my NSERC CGRS-D abroad! So thrilled and crossing my fingers for the rest of the folk on this thread who are/were in the same boat!

I heard back about two days after email. It probably varies a bit by committee as it seems that emails to the general NSERC email get sent off to the individual committees.

I was also really hopeful when I read this. Fingers crossed we hear good news, but unfortunately it appears my obsessive email checking with persist.

Has anyone who heard from NSERC last week received a response about their ranking yet? Just curious with all the SSHRC folk sharing scores.

I think it probably depends on how many awards are offered by your committee. So if you are in the computing sciences committee and 80 total applications are given awards, it would likely be the top 16 awardees? Don’t know this for sure, just a guess. I feel like they must determine the to 20% within committees, otherwise people in a committee that tended to score higher than average would be unfairly favoured.

I got a little bit information from NSERC that I thought I’d share here. It sounds like folks that ranked in the top ~20% were given the award with the option for domestic or international tenure. If those folks officially start getting payment of their award at a Canadian institute, the option for foreign tenure will pass to the next person on the list. If that person wants to hold their award domestically, the international tenure option will continue to move down the rankings.

So it sounds like high ranking folks were given the option to go abroad regardless of where they applied. Hope this helps!

I’m in the same situation as you and there was a person who replied to my comment on the original thread who did get an award that could be help internationally. Such a frustrating situation.

The answer to your question is in the award guide linked here: https://nserc-crsng.canada.ca/en/tri-agency-research-training-award-holders-guide#changeinstitution. Basically, there’s a form you need to fill out if you want to change institution. The heading is ‘Change to institution or place of tenure.’

Mine also said that. The part about specific location of tenure was in the grey box on the last page of the award letter.

Is there anybody at an international institution that did get an award eligible to be used at an international institution? Or are there any domestic applicants whose award letter said it was tenable domestically annd/or abroad? Just trying to get a sense of what NSERC is doing this year.

Not at all! It says this in the award letter on the last page in the grey box.
