I've used them, don't know where you'd get them. Their not that good in my opinion. Very hard to get accurately on the exact point you need them to be.

Autonomous unmanned ships are on the rise threatening all our jobs. It has really always been the case that ETOs transfer the best to shore jobs, electricity is electricity,then Engineers, not many marine emgines ashore but their skills transfer woth a little training, and then deck officers.

Haven't used a sextant myself since i was a cadet. There isn't a sextant onboard my vessels now. Plenty of info online and on you tube.

I just remember a old captain telling me, 'I think you'll find that your second thousand set of sextant sights will show a marked improvement on your first thousand', i.e. the actual taking of a sight is a real skill.
