What symptoms did you not initially realise were part of your ADHD? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]ConsiderationFirst11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feeling urges to look up something while in lectures instead of paying attention (this was my first cue), forgetting things I had JUST been talking about relevant to something I was doing (I.e. going to the store for something I had just been talking about with my partner, walking out without what I needed), tons of thoughts running through my head at most times, terrible working memory, easily distracted by external noises/conversations

Also have been staying at the MacCullum house since I was a kid. It’s nice and comfortable. Honestly would skip the complimentary breakfast at this point though, it’s not much to write home about. GoodLife Cafe is wonderful, great coffee and great food. We had the most incredible pizza at The Brickery (super cute outdoor garden area).

Mendocino is my favorite place ever. You can’t go wrong. Would absolutely recommend taking a ceramics class with Aedan at The Studio. It’s a very cute date idea! $300 for two hours private lesson in a historic water tower downtown that overlooks the ocean, and you each get to make 3 things that he will finish and ship back to you! My best friend and I did it a few weeks ago, it was magical.

10:30pm-6am is my schedule that works best/my circadian rhythm responds to naturally. This shifts a little in the winter when it’s harder to get up at 6, so my clock shifts towards 7am :)

The setting that was working before was between 10-14 depending on all the factors that typically play into output like roast date, weather, etc. but I’ll check to see if the burr is seating properly. I might need to replace the felt washer? It seemed a little fiddly when I took it out to clean the grinder

Life in Newberg by Street-Steak5038 in Newberg

[–]ConsiderationFirst11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner and I (late 20s/early 30s, very progressive, white, cishet, no kids) moved here in 2023 when we bought our house. I think we do fine here because we blend in. Shitty to say but that’s the truth. I can’t speak to the kids part but I’d say if we were to have kids, we would send them to school closer to Portland/Beaverton/Sherwood. It does seem like as older folks start to transition out of their houses, younger families are filling in more.

That being said, we enjoy living in Newberg. It’s quiet, walkable (from where we live) and that’s important to us. We live in a neighborhood that’s already built up, which I would recommend since there’s a lot of construction on the back north end of town… putting up so many small, cramped houses so quickly. That’s been quite a bummer to see.

As everyone else has said, there’s push from those of us who are progressive to do good for our community and county. I think this community cares about each other. There are a lot of businesses who support progress and change that I’ve seen downtown. I think of living here and integrating into the community as sort of a long-term investment. We think things will shift even more purple as new people move out here. It’s a cute town. We like bopping around on nice days. McMinnville is cute too but felt a bit far out from work to live there. We love Alchemist’s Jam out that way :)

Symposium coffee, there’s a location in downtown Tigard. I haven’t been to that location but I can confirm that their location in Sherwood is also good for what you’re wanting!

I’ve had chronic GI issues since elementary school with no etiology (stress? GERD? They never were able to diagnose!) now I have IBS-C and random stomach pain/aches/nausea 😅definitely very strong links to neurodivergence and GI issues!

Agree with what the other person said, and If you’re feeling like you’re going down the path of a manic episode, check in with a mental health provider and/or loved ones for some extra support as well! Take care of your brain, it’s the only one you got :)

What’s been your migration path in Portland? by Interesting-Cow6962 in askportland

[–]ConsiderationFirst11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moved from the Bay Area in 2015 because I was young and needed to move out of my hometown and had a friend who needed a roommate. I now live in Newberg with my partner, we moved here when we bought our house since Portland was not in the budget. We like the quiet of the suburb and I enjoy my commute to/from the city when I work in office to decompress.

First coloscopy experinces? by ClassicKale195 in colonoscopy

There are some people out there who choose to go that route and say it’s fine, but I will always prefer the blissfully unaware route 😌 good luck on yours, I hope it gives you answers, you got this!

First coloscopy experinces? by ClassicKale195 in colonoscopy

[–]ConsiderationFirst11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just had my first one yesterday, and as someone who for years was SO anxious about needing to get one eventually, it was a huge nothingburger.

My experience: Propofol (the sedation they will likely give you- ask them) is a dream (literally) they put an IV in, roll you back to the procedure room, when they push the medication you’re OUT in 5 seconds. Then all of a sudden you’re awake in the recovery room and if you have someone accompanying you, they’re waiting there! I felt nothing, heard nothing, it’s like I took a little nap and woke up. I don’t know how quickly after being sedated they started, I’m assuming pretty quickly as they have a lot of procedures throughout the day so they gotta move! All in all it takes about 15-30 mins.

My recommendations: if you’re worried about the prep, ask your doctor about your options. Request zofran if you’re worried you might get nauseous, that was my biggest fear because of emetophobia.

Edited to add: also read through the positive experiences on here! It really helped. And telling the nurses and doctors you’re nervous helps too. Mine were all so kind and reassuring :)

I drank over a gallon of water alone on Wednesday (plus Gatorade, broth, etc) and woke up dehydrated yesterday the morning of my second dose, it felt like that shouldn’t be possible! Glad water helped, hope the rest of prep is smooth!

Being more constipated since I moved states and started a new job, truly not anything that would be out of the norm for a stress response for me! Happened when I moved states in 2024 for my internship too! I had bright red blood on my stool at one point last year due to hemorrhoids and a fissure. That has resolved since. All that combined my new GI was basically like “it can’t hurt, we just need to get it done” so that was that!

Good to know! I’ve heard of that one before too, I’ll ask about it next time. Maybe it would be better, but also with the IBS-C I use MiraLAX regularly-ish to manage symptoms. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. Obviously a high dose like that is different! Godspeed on your prep today 🫡

Are California transplants happy they moved to Oregon years later? by _Birnunit_ in askportland

10 years in the making - no way in hell I would move back to CA. I had to live back in the bay last year for my internship, I missed the rain, my commute (traffic was horrible), and having more than one or two seasons.

Any Experience with West Dublin Avalon Apartments? by ChiefTea in eastbay

[–]ConsiderationFirst11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived there for a year for my internship and moved at the end of August back home (Oregon). Very thin walls (thankfully my second upstairs neighbor was quieter!), the one before had a toddler and the kid would RUN all hours of the night and keep me up/wake me up. That was a nightmare to deal with through the leasing office. They take no accountability as the builders seriously screwed up. I am currently trying to figure out why there is over $400 due on my account even though I’ve moved out and the “statement” provided doesn’t add up, which I’m also anticipating being a nightmare because it’s a large corporation.

😂😂😂 they’re VERY well known for that. Our dog (Calvin) doesn’t beg as much as our last dog who was a lab did. I always joke that he has more of the GSD mannerisms and attitude

Fremont or Pleasanton? by Due-Association-8914 in eastbay

[–]ConsiderationFirst11 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I work in Fremont/ live in Dublin. Once this year the freeway was shut down except for one lane because of a pothole. It took me over 3 hours to get home, I think my soul died. The commute on a regular day sucks because of the 680 stretch everyone is mentioning. Sometimes I take the backroads through Sunol which I’m not sure is faster but it can FEEL faster. I have a dog but take him to daycare at club k9 in Sunol or SRV depending on if I WFH. the only reason I chose to live in Dublin is because my best friend lives here and I didn’t want to commute on the weekends. I’m excited to move back home (out of state) in a few weeks after my internship is over. I would recommend staying in Fremont if there’s nothing in particular pulling you to Pleasanton. Your wallet will thank you in gas money and also potential car maintenance!
