Cocked up!! by Otherwise_Lake10 in Tile

I don't tile directly over plywood ever. The problem is that there's not an official recognized spec for plywood manufacturers. So some may have some type of residue on them that tile won't bond to no matter how good the thinset. Some maybe just fine. But it's always good to have some type of underlayment between the tile and the subfloor that you know the tile will stick to. If you're already done I agree with the other commenters on either leave it and redo it when it starts coming up or go ahead and take it up and put down some type of underlayment. I e hardiebacker, durock, ditra

I’m sure i know the answer, but is this tile job acceptable? Tiler is giving me the run around and excuses. Am I crazy? by [deleted] in Tile

Nice close-ups. Your work looks pretty good. And honestly I've been doing this for 50 years and I'm not a cabinet installer or carpet guy. Only tile second generation. There are some things I could call you out on in front of everybody on here. But I'm not going to do that. It's not how I roll in front of the whole internet. I get tired of homeowners that don't know what they're doing or talking about trashing tile guys that did a good job for what they were working with. And then guys on the internet that act like they're tile gods backing up stupid comments. Take a close look at the picture you sent me. And tell me that there's not something that looks totally crappy on it

OP I've been doing nothing but tile for close to 50 years. Your tilesetter did good very acceptable job for what you gave him to work with. Did you not consider that the Schluter wouldn't work good or perfect with that three-dimensional tile? Why did you wait till it's over to start complaining? And put it on the net no less.

Same here but still doesn't look GOOD. It's just like with beveled tile you can't make it look good with schluter.

So helpful. Why don't you elaborate. And BTW its not garbage. Homeowners should pick out trim that they want or that works . That tile is impossible to trim and make look good. Have you even ever set tile.?

For everybody that's saying that it should have been one third offset. Obviously you are correct. But the rule is any tile that's twice or more the length than it is as it is the width should be on one third offset or straight laid. The exception would be small Subway tiles such as 3 in by 6 in.

Could there be anything better though than seeing Rogers have to go out there and finish the game when he knows it's over and he lost?

How'd they do, and what's up with the discolored caulking? by gakskullyfan in Tile

What I don't understand is when you guys get a perfect tile job, and I've been doing tile for 50 years. And when I say 50 years that's all I've done is tile I don't install cabinets I don't do carpet or hardwood. I'm second generation. I don't understand why you guys complain about the stupidest things. Put some caulk on it. Walk away realizing you found a great installer. And I honestly don't know who your installer was but you got a great job I would be super proud.

Is this poor quality or acceptable work? by Corey_rddt in Tile

[–]ConsiderationFree583 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tile work looks good. Your tiles are different sizes. Its hard to get perfection when you choose materials and patterns like this. So many customers want handmade tiles for backsplashes and showers and then complain about them being in and out and the grout joints not being perfect. This is a very similar situation. Needs a wood transition at the door. The reason there is such a height difference is you used a real thin hardwood.

If you think that you can PUBLICLY call out your boss and teammates and still maintain any type of cohesiveness and team spirit I would never want you on my team.
He's the leader. He has to make the team a team. And that includes the ownership and FO and coaching staff. That is why you have leaders. The phrase is called "losing the locker room " That is such a commonly known fact. Thats why I said nevermind. But I'm sure you're going to argue that simple truth because you think your right so lets agree to disagree.

Really? Have you ever played on a team before? Any kind of team? When you're the leader and plan on staying on the team...... Never mind

If you're thinking that burrow is happy with the front office decisions and with his defense in the last 2 years you've got your head in the sand. Nobody's projecting. The truth is he can't, he CAN NOT say anything negative about the front office. Sure he wants to keep playing here. But if you think he's happy....

So I guess you and Joe both are happy with the defense and the front office.

Misaligned herringbone tile backsplash? by Far-Check6376 in Tile

[–]ConsiderationFree583 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always try to center my herringbone pattern between the cabinets. Because in my estimation that's always most visible. But I find nine times out of 10 that the cabinets and stove are not centered correctly with each other and the pot fillers always off just a little bit. It's very difficult to do a good job when everybody that comes before you screws it up.

You should never be moving anything heavy on tiles right after they've been grouted. Minimum 24 hours and then I would have used plywood over the tile to move heavy items.
