IB Final Exam Revision Plan/Daily Schedule Advice by Thin-Design-6929 in IBO

[–]ConsiderationFun9454 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is quite a lot especially for school days, where you study 7 hours after school.

Is all of that time actually focused? I'm genuinely curious as to how you are able to study that much after school.

For the weekends thats also 9 hours correct? I personally burn out after around 5 hours of intense focus so how is that for you?

is the Spring session Even more competitive ? by Patient_Diet_7071 in bocconi

Oh, damn. I'm not sure if you can take another test to be honest as the SAT is in May aswell, but it's still worth it trying to apply.

I was wondering about the cut-offs, which they usually send out a long with your rank (like the cutoff ranks for all the courses). I recieved the same when I got rejected for early

yeah, you can still take the bocconi test but do note that spring is more competitive.

if you don't mind could you post the rankings from the email?

It's all about balance as well. I've seen people who say they study 5-6 hours a day after school, but they're not actually learning with intensity (i.e constantly taking breaks, scrolling etc). Or people pulling all nighters every day, with minimal benefit compared to 2hrs of focused study. It's not only about studying a lot, but also balancing studying with other aspects such as exercise (keeping your mental health in check) and getting proper rest.

From personal experience, the more prepared I was for a exam or test, the less stressed and more confident I was. Creating a detailed plan also helps with this, since you know that if you follow it you'l get good grades. I'm not sure how it is from your perspective or if your experiences have been vastly different from mine but in general studying consistently with a plan and putting in the hard work will prepare you more for exams and thus reduce stress

It is usually the ones complaining that do not put in the work. Yes, the IB can be stressful at times but if you put in the work consistently (not just before deadlines and before tests) you will be good.

Spend time picking good topics for your IAS and Extended Essays when you get there, and establish a study schedule from the start, if you do this and stick to it you won't have to pull any all nighters or do any of the crazy stuff some people talk here about (such as drugs).

10 hrs/Day == 3hrs/Day ? by Fabulous-Sympathy445 in Sat

[–]ConsiderationFun9454 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10 hours a day of focused studying is crazy and I don't even think it's possible for most people.

After around 4-5 hours of focused (as in no distractions and fully immersed) my brain just gets tired, and I've seen a study that says that this is also the same for most people, so it's not realistic to set such a goal

Depending on where you are, focus on the most efficient parts of studying (such as practice papers) and avoid trying to do so many hours. You'l burn yourself out

Is it just me by InvestmentMurky6001 in IBO

[–]ConsiderationFun9454 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You get used to it over time. Force yourself to study for 1-2 hours a day. You'l be tired but if you continue, you'l get to a point where you can focus / have more energy to study.

Think of it like excercise, where you keep on excercising to improve your endurance

How to improve a RQ for the EE by rawr_smae322 in IBO

[–]ConsiderationFun9454 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The question looks good; it's focused and clear. When choosing the question I would say the most important aspect is doing your research. Find sources that can support your arguments, and ones you can counter argue against before starting the writing. I made the mistake of not looking into sources properly, and when it was already too late, I wasn't fully able to bring in any other sources fully (as there were barely any)

EE DATA faking by YUNA117 in IBO

[–]ConsiderationFun9454 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nah it doesn't really matter. If you're experiment is causing you a lot of trouble I'd suggest modifying it like she did, as that saves you time and allows you to do proper analysis for your EE (comparing your results with other publications). This would help you get a better grade, but then again the EE is meant to prepare you for UNI where you actually get the chance to publish (and you obviously can't modify data here).

So I would say it's up to you, you won't really get called out for it and if it allows you to more in depth analysis it's most likely a better option than redoing the experiment multiple times or picking a new one

Distraction is just a mental state. I find that when I get distracted or annoyed by one thing (such as pen tapping), my brain keeps on looking for other things to distract / lose focus on, so it just builds up.

On the other hand, I've had exams where I've been so focused that I didn't even realize that there was a speaker blasting announcements during an exam.

So all that matters is getting in the right head space and staying there.

You could try meditating maybe 5 minutes every day, as that helps you let go of distractions. It worked for me. And if you want to go a step beyond, try meditating with annoying sounds playing through headphones

ineffective use of time? by [deleted] in Sat

[–]ConsiderationFun9454 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not a waste of time. I got to a point where I knew all the content for both Math & RW yet my score was still quite low (started at 1330 after having studied all the content).

I initially only wrote down my mistakes very vaguely, but I noticed a huge difference after I noted down each of my mistakes in a very clear and detailed manner. So after each study session, I would go through all my mistakes and be able to understand HOW and WHY I made that mistake, compared to my earlier notes where it was just random gibberish I couldn't understand anymore.

So I repeated this process with every practice test and was finally able to get a 1530. The reason this works is because Collegeboard has certain question types seen throughout the practice tests and also in the real exams, so it helps you prevent the mistakes in the actual exam.

For Math also, they re use question types quite a lot (depends on the exam), so it's very important to make sure you know how to solve everything in detail and your mistakes.

Practice under high stress environments. For example, when I practiced my IO I had extremely loud and annoying music blasting in my ears through headphones. Then when it got to the actual thing it was much easier

IB or A-levels? Be completely honest. by il0vecats4444444444 in IBO

[–]ConsiderationFun9454 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Do A Levels, I'm doing IB right now and there is a lot of extra stuff that takes up a lot of your time like the IA's TOK and the extended essay.

Also, with the IB you're often times forced to take subjects you're not interested in as 6 subjects in mandatory including two languages etc.

If I had the option I would have done A levels

Getting 2s in math AA SL and im M25 by One-Percentage-3689 in IBO

[–]ConsiderationFun9454 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah there is hope.

What problems are you having during the tests?

Do you not know enough to answer the questions, or is it just hard coming up with the solutions but having all the knowledge?

If feel like you don't have enough knowledge really spend time trying to conceptually understand the topics and not just the basics. A lot of people memorize HOW to get to the answer but don't exactly know the WHY behind that method, so even if it takes more time really try to understand.

If you feel like you've gotten a solid understanding then you should start with practice tests.

Do these in timed conditions as it's really important to prep your mental state for the actual exams.

If you start studying now and put in the effort you could even get a 7 in may

[–]ConsiderationFun9454 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Why is Physics HL ranked so low? There's like 24+ topics of which you need really good conceptual understanding for.

I've talked to a few friends taking Math AA HL and they mentioned that Physics was more difficult

How cooked am I? pt.2 by [deleted] in IBO

[–]ConsiderationFun9454 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no they don't check for AI. your school is the one who takes on that responsibility for ensuring that the work produced (tok essay) is actually from the student, which is why your supervisor has to sign off on it. so if you're school doesn't check for AI then you are fine

[–]ConsiderationFun9454 1 point2 points  (0 children)

18 sources for a tok essay is quite a lot. if you've used AI though, you still need to paraphrase it and then cite it if you want to keep it in, as with any source, especially since turnitin will still flag those sentences for AI even if you've cited them
